Job summary

Apotex is seeking a skilled Building Services Operator in Canada to maintain and repair critical facility systems. You will operate HVAC, boilers, chillers, dust collectors and purified water systems to support production, labs and warehouses.

With 3+ years of hands-on experience, you will troubleshoot, document work in CMMS, and coordinate with vendors to minimize downtime. The role demands adherence to GMPs, safety standards and strong teamwork.

Qualifications

• Read and interpret architectural, mechanical and electrical drawings.
• Experience with a computerized Building Management System (BMS).
• Familiarity with Microsoft Office programs.
• Minimum 3 years operating, maintaining and repairing complex HVAC/industrial systems.

Responsibilities

• Operate building systems to provide reliable environmental conditions and utilities for production, packaging, labs, warehouse and offices.
• Troubleshoot, repair, maintain and install building systems as required.
• Carry out preventative maintenance tasks.
• Document work in CMMS, log books and change controls.
• Coordinate major repairs with facilities staff and contractors to minimize downtime.
• Evaluate system effectiveness and participate in continuous improvements.
• Work from blueprints and specifications to locate and diagnose trouble.
• Maintain spare parts inventory to minimize downtime.
• Ensure compliance with GMPs, SOPs and safety standards.
• Collaborate with team to achieve outcomes.

Responsible for the operation, maintenance and repair of building systems equipment and facilities in order to provide highly reliable utility support to the Operations Group. Equipment includes HVAC, boilers, chillers, dust collectors, air compressors and purified water systems.

Job Responsibilities

• Operate building systems to provide specified and reliable environmental conditions and utilities to production, packaging, laboratory, warehouse and office areas. Document system conditions as assigned. Report abnormal conditions to Building Services Manager.
• Troubleshoot, repair, maintain, calibrate, alter / modify and make installations to the building systems and facilities in a professional and timely fashion as required.
• Carry out preventative maintenance tasks as assigned.
• Compile and maintain all information and documentation relevant to all completed work (CMMS, Log Book, change control, update drawings, files etc.).
• Determines impact of required work, communicates, co‑ordinates and supervises major repairs with other facilities staff / contractor and users to minimize service interruption.
• To work as part of a team with users, facilities staff and vendor to evaluate effectiveness of systems in order to make continuous improvements.
• Work from blueprints, drawings, layouts or other specifications; locate and diagnose trouble in the building systems or equipment.
• Recommend and maintain inventory of spare parts to minimize any downtime on the system.
• Ensure that all work is performed in full compliance with Good Manufacturing Practices, Standard Operating Procedures, Work Instructions and established safety standards.
• Works as a member of a team to achieve all outcomes.
• Performs all work in support of our Corporate Values of Pride, Accountability, Integrity and Diligence; Demonstrates strong and visible support of our values.
• Performs all work in accordance with all established regulatory and compliance and safety requirements.
• All other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

• Education
  • Minimum High school Diploma or equivalent required
  • Trade certification in appropriate field (licensed millwright, refrigeration mechanic, industrial electrician,gas technician (G2) etc.) required.
  • 3rd Class Operating Engineer’s Certificate or 4th Class Certificate with relevant steam experience preferred.
• Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Able to read and interpret architectural, mechanical and electrical drawings.
  • Experience in the use of a computerized Building Management System to operate building equipment is an asset
  • Familiarity with software programs including Microsoft Office. Good organization and communication skills.
• Experience
  • Minimum of 3 years proven hands on experience in operating, maintaining, repair and troubleshooting of complex systems such as: HVAC, boilers, chillers, dust collectors, air compressors and purified water systems in an industrial environment.

The hiring range for this position is $73,008 - $121,680 CAD per year. The final agreed-upon salary may vary based on factors such as job-related knowledge, skills and experience.
