Job summary

Apotex is seeking a Technician, General Maintenance to support GMP-compliant site upkeep in a fast-paced pharmaceutical environment in Canada.

You will perform light electrical, plumbing, painting and minor repairs, manage SAP work orders, supervise subcontractors, and prepare weekly maintenance reports while ensuring safety and quality standards.

Qualifications

  • High-school diploma and eligible Ontario licensing in carpentry or plumbing or equivalent training/experience.
  • 3–5 years of facility maintenance, repair and construction in food and pharmaceutical industries preferred.
  • Strong communication, problem-solving and customer service abilities; able to work independently.
  • Ability to read blueprints, sketches and specifications for repairs, maintenance or installations.

Responsibilities

  • Perform building maintenance tasks including replacing light bulbs in non-GMP areas, minor repairs to walls, doors and windows, locksmithing, plumbing, painting and minor electrical work.
  • Oversee minor in-house construction tasks following GMP and safety regulations.
  • Complete daily site rounds and report deficiencies to management.
  • Assist in supervising specialized general maintenance subcontractors.
  • Convert maintenance notifications to SAP work orders and document submissions daily.
  • Prepare weekly reports on completed/open work orders and coordinate with business areas to minimize disruption.
  • Perform preventive maintenance tasks and maintain a minimal stock of supplies.
  • Develop skills for more complex maintenance tasks while delivering appropriate customer service.
  • Communicate delays or deviations to customers and team members promptly.
  • Ensure contractors meet Apotex standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Work safely and collaboratively to achieve outcomes.
  • Adhere to Global Business Ethics, Global Quality, Safety and Environment, and HR policies.

Technician, General Maintenance – performs building maintenance tasks to support the upkeep of the site in a GMP compliant and cost‑effective manner under minimal supervision.

Job Responsibilities
  • Perform various tasks related to building maintenance such as replacing light bulbs in non‑GMP areas, minor repairs to walls, doors & windows, locksmithing, domestic plumbing, painting and minor electrical repairs.
  • Execute and oversee minor construction jobs in‑house following GMP and safety regulations.
  • Complete daily rounds of the site, reporting any deficiencies to management.
  • Assist in supervising specialized general maintenance subcontractors.
  • Convert all general maintenance notifications to work orders in SAP, accurately complete documentation, and submit to supervisors daily.
  • Prepare weekly reports on completed and open work orders and coordinate with business areas to schedule upcoming maintenance work with minimal disruption.
  • Perform assigned preventive maintenance tasks as required and document accordingly.
  • Maintain a minimal stock of maintenance supplies to meet task deadlines.
  • Develop skills progressively for more complex maintenance tasks, demonstrating appropriate customer service responses.
  • Communicate delays or deviations from work specifications to customers and relevant team members in a timely manner.
  • Ensure contractors and tradesmen deliver quality work meeting Apotex standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Work safely and collaboratively to achieve outcomes.

Job Requirements
  • Education
    • High‑school diploma.
    • Ontario Ministry of Labour licensing in an applicable discipline (e.g., carpentry, plumbing) or equivalent training and experience.
  • Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
    • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
    • Strong interpersonal and problem‑solving skills.
    • Outstanding customer service skills.
    • Ability to work independently and handle multiple tasks.
    • Experience in general building maintenance.
    • Basic computer literacy with Microsoft Office; familiarity with SAP preferred.
    • Ability to read blueprints, sketches and specifications for repairs, maintenance or installations.
  • Experience
    • 3 to 5 years of facility maintenance, repair and construction work in the food and pharmaceutical industry preferred.
Compensation and Benefits

The hiring range is $55,138.14 – 77,193.40 CAD per year. Salary may be adjusted based on knowledge, skills and experience.
