Zurich Canada is currently seeking a Technical Underwriter specializing in Personal Lines to provide expertise and guidance in Personal Property / Auto technical underwriting to Business Units, External Partners / Brokers, and Underwriters.
Reporting to the VP & Actuarial Director, you will contribute to underwriting strategies, develop knowledge of personal property and auto insurance, support portfolio management, and offer technical expertise for various projects.

This position offers a hybrid work model.
What you will do
- Implement underwriting strategies (e.g., pricing) and solutions (e.g., product development, underwriting tools and processes) for a portfolio of personal lines business.
- Enhance knowledge of Personal Property and Auto insurance across Canada.
- Monitor underwriting performance metrics, data, and insights to inform strategy.
- Operate within established Risk Policies, Global Underwriting Policies, and governance frameworks.
- Develop technical underwriting guidelines and best practices, including controls and procedures.
- Handle queries within your delegated authority.
- Support portfolio management activities, including profitability and growth analysis.
- Ensure technical price accuracy and support price certification processes.
- Participate in the Technical Underwriting Review Process.
- Address compliance-related inquiries, including regulatory examinations and insurance department requests.
- Anticipate and respond to customer needs.
- Support the implementation of customer initiatives.
- Provide regular status updates.
- Resolve technical problems by referencing policies, procedures, and specifications.
- Compare solutions and provide recommendations for problem-solving or process improvements.
- Provide technical expertise for short-term, scoped projects.

What you bring to the table:
Required:
- Bachelor's Degree and 6+ years of experience in personal property or auto underwriting.
- High School Diploma or equivalent with 8+ years of experience in underwriting.
Preferred:
- CPCU designation.
- Strong knowledge of lines of business and the legal/regulatory environment.
- Ability to multi-task effectively.
- Excellent listening, verbal, and written communication skills.
