This is an addition to the company’s Canadian team and will enhance their existing presence across all species groups, with a growing emphasis on ruminants, by focusing on nutritional review and support, technical sales support, and further research and development.

The opportunity is an excellent fit for those with an existing profile in the feed industry combined with an active technical sales and business development approach, a strong marketing-toward-commercialization mindset, a solid understanding of ruminant and monogastric species’ nutritional requirements and an appreciation of the value of enriched functional foods in human health and wellness. ABOUT GRASSLANDS RECRUITMENT SPECIALISTS

We are a recruiting company that has been connecting Canadian agriculture since 1996. With well over 80 years of combined experience in the industry, we provide specialized recruiting services for our clients. Our focus is to find the best candidate for our client employers and the perfect opportunity for career seekers. As a search firm, we have dedicated our resources to being an integral part of the continued growth and diversity of the Canadian agricultural economy. Our team is strategically placed throughout the Canadian labor market- understanding the needs of Canadian and international agribusiness employers. We take the time to understand individuals’ career aspirations, and then work to match them with our clients’ opportunities. We are not algorithms; we are people helping people!

ABOUT OUR CLIENT

Our client is a pioneer and leader in the animal nutrition field, manufacturing the most effective and efficient land-based Omega-3 feed ingredient in the world. Ingredients such as flaxseed, canola, pulses, and alfalfa are blended under their patented dry-extrusion process. The result is an Omega-3 feed ingredient that is stable, free-flowing and has superior digestibility and/or rumen escape values.

They are a privately held Canadian company, with a 50+ year history and guiding principles of professionalism, safety, innovation, and lifelong learning. They believe everything and everyone are connected, which is why they work tirelessly to produce healthy feed that supports healthy animals and the production of healthy food. They are obsessively passionate about the food production chain, and their mission is to be the preferred provider of nutritious animal feed ingredients for the production of healthier food. Their primary focus is on natural, plant-based Omega-3 fatty acids that are sustainable and will help livestock and consumers, alike.

For more than 50 years, the company has been providing all-natural, land-based feed solutions to livestock producers, feed suppliers, and vertically-integrated livestock processors around the world. With roots originating in livestock production, they understand the importance of quality, consistent feed ingredients that support all levels of the supply chain. Additionally, their Canadian prairie base gives them the unique advantage of access to the highest quality agricultural crops and oilseeds, ensuring sustainable production.

Today, they enjoy majority market share in several segments (eg Omega-3 eggs), with their production destined for locations across Canada, the USA and numerous international destinations. Their opportunity lies in several unique markets which have not been fully developed, and in continuing the transition from livestock feed through to functional food with value-added products, linking both ends of the value chain.

A DAY IN THE LIFE OF THE TECHNICAL SERVICES MANAGER

This position will entail working in alignment and conjunction with the company VP Sales and Marketing and other management and staff on various technical, marketing and research and development initiatives, supporting customers and other technical associates in Canada, the USA and internationally relating to use of a protected Omega-3 fat source manufactured by the company. It has been demonstrated to have value as either a nutritional feed ingredient for ruminants (immunity, conception, milk production, GHG reduction) or in helping to create value-added food products (milk, cheese, butter, beef, eggs). A progressive, diversified approach is required to advance the use of the product, using your knowledge and experience relating to ruminant nutritional requirements and functional food benefits. The Technical Services Manager will help complement the sales process for both prospective and existing ruminant customers and will be required to interact with a variety of external colleagues (customers, nutritionists, and educators) to support a set of solutions for advanced Omega-3 nutritional feed balancing. The market potentials for ruminant health and value-added food products are substantial and the company is looking for progressive thoughts relating to the development of existing and future research. While research and development activities are important to the expansion of the business, R&D is not the sole focus of this unique position. Another key element of the role is analysis of technical information and supporting on-going marketing activities, including website, e-marketing campaigns, developing standards booklets and wire-frames for internal and external blogs and news releases- all with the intent to facilitate the branding of Omega-3 foods through technical support.

AM I A GOOD FIT FOR THIS UNIQUE OPPORTUNITY?

Nutritional knowledge for livestock health (ie. Production/conception/immunity) as well as for value-added food product development (Omega-3 beef and dairy products) will be ideal.

  • Post-secondary education (B.Sc. or M.Sc.) in animal nutrition, complemented with a business background.
  • Minimum 10 years of successful experience in the animal nutrition industry.
  • Animal agriculture background required, with a working knowledge of the various supply channels: integrators, feed companies, veterinarians, and nutritionists.
  • Understanding of and appreciation for value-added functional foods and their benefits to human health and well-being.
  • Highly motivated self starter, productive and content working independently, while able to collaborate effectively with internal partners.
  • Proven communication, presentation, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.
  • Business development, marketing and account management aptitude.
