Job summary

Flair Airlines is seeking a Technical Services Engineer – Powerplant Systems to join our Calgary team. You will provide technical engineering support for engines, powerplant systems, and related components, ensuring safety and reliability across the fleet.

You will analyze reliability data, liaise with OEMs, and develop engineering orders and procedures to maintain airworthiness, while coordinating with Maintenance, Engineering, and MRO partners.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Aeronautical, Aerospace Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
• Valid Transport Canada Aircraft Maintenance Engineer (AME) M license with a minimum of 10 years of relevant aircraft maintenance experience.
• FAA Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) certification or EASA Part-66 B1 license is considered an asset.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical support to operational departments and repair providers for safe aircraft operations and maintenance activities.
• Analyze reliability data and develop corrective actions and repair solutions to support technical dispatch reliability.
• Review borescope inspection findings against OEM specifications and requirements.
• Liaise with OEMs regarding ICA deviations, service requests, and other technical matters.
• Act as Technical Representative for engine shop visits as required.
• Establish and maintain build standards for engines, powerplants, APUs, and related components.
• Serve as primary technical contact for troubleshooting powerplant issues.
• Develop engineering orders and technical instructions for repairs and modifications.
• Develop procedures to support compliance with Airworthiness Directives and regulatory requirements.
• Provide instructions and documentation to support cost-effective maintenance and timely return of aircraft.

Your Team:

Join Flair’s Technical Services team, where engineering expertise supports the safety, reliability, and continued airworthiness of the fleet. Reporting to the Manager, Technical Services, the Technical Services Engineer – Powerplant Systems (TSE-PS) provides technical engineering support for aircraft engines and associated powerplant systems, including troubleshooting, maintenance requirements, reliability concerns, and aircraft return-to-service activities.

Working with Maintenance, Engineering, Reliability, and other operational teams, the TSE-PS evaluates technical issues, develops recommendations, and supports the maintenance procedures and programs required for the fleet. The role helps ensure powerplant systems are maintained in accordance with regulatory, manufacturer, and company requirements while identifying opportunities to improve reliability and operational performance.

This is an on-site position based at our Calgary, AB (YYC) office.

A Day in the Life:

• Provide technical support to operational departments and repair providers to support safe and efficient aircraft operations, engine repairs, and maintenance activities.
• Analyze aircraft and powerplant reliability data and develop corrective actions, engineering modifications, and repair solutions to support technical dispatch reliability.
• Review and assess borescope inspection findings against applicable OEM specifications and technical requirements.
• Liaise with OEMs regarding Deviations to Instructions for Continued Airworthiness (ICA), Service Requests, and other technical matters.
• Act as the Technical Representative for engine shop visits, as required.
• Establish and maintain build standards and technical specifications for engines, powerplants, APUs, and related components.
• Serve as the primary technical point of contact for troubleshooting and resolution of assigned powerplant system issues.
• Develop and issue engineering orders and technical instructions for repairs, modifications, and alterations to engines, powerplants, components, and accessories.
• Develop engineering procedures, standards, and process specifications to support compliance with Airworthiness Directives and other applicable regulatory requirements.
• Provide technical instructions and documentation to support cost-effective maintenance and the timely return of aircraft to a safe and airworthy condition.
• Evaluate OEM Service Bulletins, Airworthiness Directives (ADs), and Notices of Proposed Rulemaking (NPRMs) and develop required engineering documentation and recommendations for implementation.
• Monitor fleet and engine performance using GE Diagnostics/FMX, identifying trends and implementing corrective actions to maintain fleet health and reduce operational disruptions.
• Coordinate engineering activities with OEMs, maintenance representatives, Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) facilities, external engineering organizations, regulatory authorities, and other relevant stakeholders.
• Support investigations related to safety, regulatory compliance, technical defects, and reliability concerns.
• Evaluate damaged engine parts and develop repair or disposition recommendations in accordance with applicable regulatory and OEM requirements.
• Review the powerplant requirements within the Aircraft Maintenance and Inspection Program and recommend changes to maintenance requirements and associated documentation.
• Evaluate new technologies and technical solutions that may improve engine and component reliability, performance, and maintenance effectiveness.
• Provide technical support for engine leasing, transitions, and return activities.
• Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

• Education:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Aeronautical, Aerospace Engineering, or a related engineering discipline; or
  • Valid Transport Canada Aircraft Maintenance Engineer (AME) M license with a minimum of 10 years of relevant aircraft maintenance experience.
  • FAA Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) certification or EASA Part-66 B1 license is considered an asset.
• Experience:
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience specializing in powerplant systems, with direct exposure to CFM/LEAP engines within an airline, OEM, or MRO environment.
  • Extensive experience supporting the Boeing aircraft product line.
  • Strong experience in the operation, performance, construction, maintenance, and technical assessment of turbofan and turbine engines.
  • Experience conducting technical analysis and applying Transport Canada Civil Aviation (TCCA) regulations and certification requirements.
  • Experience with engine leasing requirements, lease returns, and industry-standard practices.
  • Experience with failure analysis and root cause engineering, including exposure to metallurgical analysis.
  • Experience interpreting and applying a broad range of service, maintenance, engineering, OEM, and repair documentation.
  • Experience using computerized aircraft maintenance and engineering systems; experience with Swiss-AS AMOS is considered an asset.
• Skills & Abilities:

  • Strong judgment and decision-making skills, particularly when responding to time-sensitive maintenance and operational requirements.

  • Ability to coordinate technical activities and assignments through to completion within established timelines.
  • Strong attention to detail when reviewing technical data, engineering documentation, regulatory requirements, and maintenance records.
  • Ability to remain effective and make sound technical decisions in a changing operational environment.
