Job summary

Peoples Group in Canada is seeking an experienced Technical Product Owner to guide data and automation initiatives across a hybrid office footprint in Toronto, Vancouver, and Calgary. You will drive SDLC rigor, manage the enterprise backlog, and ensure architecture discipline in a regulated banking context.

Qualifications

• More than 5 years of experience in Technical Product Owner, Technical Project Manager, or Systems Architect roles.
• Experience improving SDLC and mentoring team members.
• Ability to read and challenge complex cloud-native architecture diagrams without coding.
• Translate business processes into functional and non-functional requirements for automation and data workflows.
• Experience in banking/fintech is an asset.
• Proven risk-aware and regulated-organization experience.
• Strong understanding of modern data infrastructure and automation platforms.
• Experience with Agile development teams and SDLC maturity.
• Proven ability to mature QA techniques and development tooling.
• Experience collaborating across cross-functional teams.
• Meticulous risk, issue, and architectural decision logging.

Responsibilities

• Manage Intake and act as Gatekeeper for Enterprise Reporting and RPA requests.
• Rigorously evaluate asks; insist on BRDs, architecture diagrams, and SLAs before backlog.
• Push back on out-of-scope or poorly defined requests.
• Own the Backlog and navigate processes across major initiatives and BAU.
• Operate with lean, startup agility while enforcing regulations and SDLC standards.
• Prioritize tech debt reduction with a risk-vs-reward framework.
• Document risks, decisions, and issues for BAU tasks.
• Lead engineering excellence by challenging tooling, QA techniques, and processes.
• Lead ground-up implementation of DORA metrics to track engineering performance.
• Lead Agile ceremonies and define a strong Definition of Done.
