Job summary

HH Angus is seeking a Technical Leader to guide the Energy team's technical direction, project delivery, and growth. You will lead on complex utility infrastructure, renewable energy, solar, BESS, interconnection, and other low-carbon initiatives while developing client partnerships and expanding market presence.

Success in this role requires strong technical leadership, business development skills, and the ability to manage multi-year engineering projects from concept through construction.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering; P.Eng. in Ontario is required.
• 10–15 years of electrical engineering consulting experience in energy or utilities.
• Proven ability to lead complex, multi-year projects and manage client relations.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical and project leadership on complex, multi-year energy projects.

We’re looking for a Technical Leader with a practice-building mindset to join our Energy team and play a key role in shaping the technical direction, project delivery, and continued growth of the division. This is an opportunity to bring your technical expertise, industry relationships, and business development mindset to an established engineering consulting firm while helping build the next phase of its Energy business. You’ll provide technical and project leadership on complex, multi-year projects spanning utility infrastructure, renewable energy, power generation, solar, BESS, interconnection, and other low-carbon energy initiatives. You’ll lead technical approaches, oversee complex designs and deliverables, guide multidisciplinary project teams, support peer review and quality, and serve as a trusted technical advisor to clients throughout the project lifecycle.

A key focus of the role will also be business development and practice growth. You’ll build and strengthen client relationships, identify new opportunities, support proposals and pursuits, and help expand our presence across the energy and power markets. We’re looking for someone who is proactive, growth-minded, and comfortable taking ownership — someone who enjoys developing relationships, identifying opportunities, bringing forward new ideas, and turning them into long-term client partnerships and business growth. WHAT YOU’LL DO

• Industry expert recognized both within and outside the organization.
• Implements strategic goals and establishes operational plans for job area.
• Ensures technical competency of complex designs, which are generally multi-year, involve complex drawings, calculations, and advanced engineering knowledge, either directly or by overseeing work of a team of engineers.
• Peer reviews engineering work of other engineers particularly for complex and non-conventional designs.
• Reviews and signs off on complex engineering reports and standards.
• Contributes to the development of design standards and criteria for the entire organization.
• Completes assigned projects on time and within budget; ensures the team perform work within budgeted hours.
• Acts as a design leader for complex projects requiring considerable experience.
• Accountable for all designs through to construction completion.
• Other duties as required.

WHAT YOU’LL BRING

• Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent).
• 10-15 years of electrical engineering consulting experience, within the energy, utilities, power generation, renewables, or related sectors.
• Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation in Ontario is required.
• Proven ability to contribute to business development and practice growth and leveraging technical expertise to expand the organization’s market presence.
• Proven experience leading the technical delivery of complex, multi-year projects involving advanced engineering design, calculations, analysis, and coordination.
• Strong technical expertise in one or more areas such as utility infrastructure, power generation, renewable energy, solar, battery energy storage systems (BESS), power distribution, or electrical interconnection.
• Demonstrated ability to provide technical leadership, peer review engineering work, and ensure the quality and competency of complex designs and deliverables.
• Strong knowledge of applicable electrical codes, industry standards, utility requirements, and engineering best practices, with the ability to contribute to the development of internal design standards and criteria.
• Experience with AutoCAD and Revit for design and documentation; familiarity with power system analysis and other engineering software is an asset.
• Demonstrated ability to lead engineers and designers, provide technical guidance, and support the development of technical capability within a team.
• Strong project and business acumen, with the ability to balance technical quality, project scope, schedule, budget, and client requirements.
• Excellent communication and relationship-building skills, with the ability to act as a trusted technical advisor to clients, project teams, and internal leadership.
• Passion for the evolving energy sector and a desire to contribute to resilient, sustainable, and low-carbon energy infrastructure while helping advance the organization’s technical capabilities.

The expected salary for this role is between $120,000 to $165,000 annually. Base salaries are determined considering several factors such as skills and competencies, experience, education, and internal and external competitiveness.
