Job summary

Electronic Arts in Canada is seeking a senior UI leader to drive technical strategy for the Skate UI. You will shape a roadmap, expand the UI framework, and empower UI artists to iterate rapidly while maintaining performance and freedom of design.

You will mentor engineers, build an inclusive culture, and collaborate with design, Frostbite, and leadership to align technical feasibility with creative ambition. Remote/hybrid options are not specified.

Qualifications

  • 7+ years of professional software engineering experience in the gaming industry.
  • 3+ years of direct experience managing technical careers, including performance reviews and hiring.
  • Deep understanding of modern UI development paradigms.
  • At least one shipped AAA title in a senior or lead technical capacity, preferably covering live service.

Responsibilities

  • Technical leadership and roadmap development for UI aligned with Skate’s future.

Key Responsibilities
  • Technical Leadership & Strategy: Assess our current UI technical state and compare to that of the rest of EA, then build a roadmap that aligns with the future of Skate.
  • Architecture & Innovation: Expand and improve the robust UI framework, systems, and workflows.
  • Empower UI artists and designers to iterate rapidly without sacrificing performance or design freedom.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner closely with UI/UX Design, Frostbite, and Skate Technical Leadership to ensure technical feasibility matches creative ambition.
People Management & Culture
  • Career Mentorship: Actively manage the career growth of UI engineers, conducting regular one‑on‑one meetings, setting performance goals, and delivering constructive feedback.
  • Team Building: Foster an inclusive, collaborative, and psychologically safe environment that encourages innovation, technical excellence, and continuous learning.
Qualifications & Skills
Required Experience
  • Game Industry Veteran: 7+ years of professional software engineering experience specifically within the gaming industry.
  • Proven People Leader: 3+ years of direct experience managing technical careers, including performance reviews, promotions, and hiring.
  • UI Domain Expertise: Deep understanding of modern UI development paradigms.
  • Shipped Titles: At least one shipped AAA title in a senior or lead technical capacity, preferably covering live service.
Technical Profile
  • Pragmatic Mindset: Proven ability to balance technology wants with business needs.
  • Coding Excellence: Strong proficiency in C++ and familiarity with modern UI scripting languages or frameworks.
  • Data‑Driven: Experience utilizing profiling tools (e.g., Pix, Razor) to diagnose and resolve UI‑related performance bottlenecks.
Pay Transparency – North America
Pay Ranges
  • British Columbia (depending on location e.g. Vancouver vs. Victoria) • $141,400 – $204,400 CAD

Pay is just one part of the overall compensation at EA.

For Canada, we offer a package of benefits including vacation (3 weeks per year to start), 10 days per year of sick time, paid top‑up to EI/QPIP benefits up to 100% of base salary when you welcome a new child (12 weeks for maternity, and 4 weeks for parental/adoption leave), extended health/dental/vision coverage, life insurance, disability insurance, retirement plan to regular full‑time employees. Certain roles may also be eligible for bonus and equity.
