Job summary

Rogers Sports & Media in Toronto is seeking a Part-time Technical Director to lead live production and switch between broadcasts with precision. You will operate a range of broadcast equipment, coordinate with Production, and ensure top-quality feeds for Sportsnet and related programs.

The role emphasizes quick decision-making under pressure, teamwork, and a strong technical foundation across SDI/2110 environments. Onsite work at Mount Pleasant, Toronto, with varied shifts.

  • Strong technical knowledge of broadcast equipment and peripherals.

Responsibilities

  • Excel at switching live shows including Sportsnet Central and other programs.
  • Make quick, accurate decisions under time constraints while maintaining a clean broadcast.
  • Operate production switchers, clip servers, scopes, multiviewers, and remote broadcast tech.
  • Initiate and lead the technical facilities check.
  • Ensure cameras, audio, intercom, tally, graphics and playback work prior to broadcast.
  • Collaborate with Production to execute the creative vision in line with brand standards.
  • Act as Operations crew leader with clear, decisive communication.
  • Work with Engineering to troubleshoot equipment issues with minimal impact on live production.

Who we're looking for:

We're looking for a Part-time Technical Director to help us grow the Rogers Sports & Media brand and connect with our Sportsnet audience.

What you'll do:

  • Excel at switching live shows, including Sportsnet Central, Hockey Central, Blue Jays Central, Raptors Central, National Bank Open and more.
  • Make quick, accurate decisions under time constraints while maintaining a clean broadcast.
  • Comfortably and confidently operate various production switchers, clip servers, scopes, multiviewers, remote broadcast technology and other ancillary equipment.
    Initiate and lead the technical facilities check.
  • Ensure that cameras, audio, intercom, tally, graphics, sponsor elements, playback sources and more, are functioning prior to every broadcast.
  • Collaborate with Production to execute on the creative vision and creatively build shows in line with brand standards.
  • Act as the Operations crew leader, using clear, constructive and decisive communication.
  • Display a deep understanding of signal flows in both SDI and 2110 environments; work closely with Distribution and Master Control on all contribution feeds,
  • Work closely with Engineering to identify and trouble shoot equipment issues, ensuring the least amount of impact to live production,
  • Continuously examine performance of internal network systems; identify and act immediately upon inconsistencies,
  • Maximize available resources for the ever-growing requirements of Rogers Sports and Media’s market leading content offerings; liaise with Directors and Producers.
  • Management and Engineering on all technical maintenance and repair related issues.
