Job summary

NORR is seeking a Technical Designer in Transportation (Architecture) to join our Canada-based team. You will develop construction documents, applying detailing and material knowledge to translate design intent into deliverable solutions for aviation, transit, and multimodal hubs.

You will collaborate with designers, engineers, and consultants, review drawings, assess site conditions, and coordinate permits and revisions. 7–10 years of experience and Revit/AutoCAD proficiency are preferred.

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education in architecture or a related field is required.
  • Experience in all phases of the project cycle is preferred.
  • Registration with a relevant professional architectural association is an asset.
  • 7-10 years of project work experience is preferred.
  • Experience with transportation projects (aviation and rail transit) is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Develop technical designs and edit architectural drawings to meet quality, timelines, and budgets.
  • Perform programming, code research, material and building systems studies.
  • Evaluate site conditions and conduct site surveys.
  • Review project products, services, and shop drawings.
  • Coordinate permit response letters and revisions with engineers and consultants to obtain documentation and permits.
  • Coordinate with contractor and authorities to address constructability or owner concerns.

Our dedicated transportation team develops aviation, transit, and multimodal hub solutions for clients around the world. We understand the needs of government and private operators to maintain, upgrade and provide new transportation services and supporting infrastructure. Our design solutions are purpose-driven to build better, more efficient and environmentally friendly transportation nodes that incorporate flexibility for future system expansion.

As a Technical Designer, you will apply and integrate technical detailing and material technologies to develop design solution into a concise set of construction documents. Using your ability to analyze and understand design intent you will produce efficient and effective technical design solutions. You will work with members of the design team to develop design solutions appropriate to the context, budget, and aesthetic requirements of architectural projects. You will use your knowledge of detailing, building materials, building codes, and construction technologies to collaborate with other professional disciplines and have opportunities to coordinate the design through all phases of the project.

You Will Make an Impact by
  • Developing technical designs and editing architectural drawings to ensure an exemplary solution is delivered that meets quality parameters, project timelines, and budgetary requirements
  • Performing design activities such as programming, code research, material and building systems research, laying out program components, and calculation of program and building areas
  • Evaluating site conditions and performing site surveys
  • Reviewing project products, services, and shop drawings
  • Processing permit response letters and coordinating revisions with engineers and consultants to obtain necessary documentation and permits
  • Coordinating with contractor, sub-consultants, or relevant building authorities to address and document issues with constructability or owner concerns
You will Bring to the Team
  • Experience in all phases of the project cycle
  • Architectural design software skills including Revit, AutoCAD and other architectural design software
  • Familiarity with MEP and Structural building systems and building codes
  • Successfully completed related post-secondary education
  • Registration with a relevant professional architectural association is an asset
  • 7-10 years of project work experience
  • Experience in transportation projects - Aviation and Rail Transit experience is an asset
  • Experience with Airport Authorities, TTC, Metrolinx, etc is an asset

The hiring base salary range for this position is $70,000.00 - $105,000.00 annually. Actual compensation will be based on several factors such as work location, education, experience, internal equity and skills.
