Job summary

Worley’s Environmental & Sustainability Consulting team seeks a Technical Consultant I, Water Engineer, to advance industrial water and wastewater projects. You’ll work on design, optimization, and regulatory tasks across North America in a hybrid role with 2–3 days per week at a Worley office in Vancouver.

You’ll contribute to treatability studies, field testing, and interdisciplinary teamwork while building consulting and engineering expertise in water treatment technologies.

Qualifications

  • Foundational knowledge of industrial water and wastewater treatment processes.
  • Experience or strong interest in process engineering principles and water chemistry.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities with attention to safety and quality.
  • Familiarity with field testing, bench studies, and pilot-scale evaluations is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Support multidisciplinary teams on industrial water and wastewater projects.
  • Assist with evaluation, design, and optimization of treatment systems.
  • Conduct treatability studies, sampling, analysis, and technology evaluations.
  • Support regulatory permitting, pollution prevention, and environmental compliance tasks.
  • Prepare process deliverables: BFDs, PFDs, P&IDs, design calculations, heat/mass balances.

Job description

Play an integral role in Worley’s Environmental & Sustainability Consulting team, helping clients solve complex industrial water and wastewater challenges while advancing sustainable outcomes across the energy, chemicals, resources, and industrial sectors. As part of our Water Treatment Process Engineering practice, you will contribute to innovative projects that support responsible water management, environmental stewardship, and operational performance. You will work alongside experienced consultants and engineers, gaining exposure to diverse projects across North America and globally while developing specialized expertise in industrial water and wastewater treatment technologies.

Purpose of the role

The Technical Consultant I, Water Engineer, supports the delivery of high-quality water and wastewater treatment consulting services for industrial clients. Working as part of multidisciplinary project teams, this role applies process engineering principles, water treatment technologies, and analytical problem-solving skills to support project execution from concept development through detailed design. The position offers an exceptional opportunity to build technical consulting expertise while contributing to sustainable water solutions that deliver measurable value to clients and communities.

Location(s): Vancouver, British Columbia or Calgary, Alberta

This is a full-time position supporting projects across North America and globally.

This hybrid role offers the flexibility to work remotely and spend 2–3 days per week at a local Worley office.

You Will Be Responsible For
  • Supporting multidisciplinary project teams focused on industrial water and wastewater treatment projects.
  • Assisting with the evaluation, design, and optimization of water and wastewater treatment systems and processes.
  • Conducting treatability studies, wastewater sampling and analysis, and technology evaluations to support project recommendations.
  • Contributing to regulatory permitting activities, pollution prevention assessments, and environmental compliance initiatives.
  • Preparing and supporting process engineering deliverables including:
    • Block Flow Diagrams (BFDs)
    • Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs)
    • Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs)
    • Process design calculations
    • Heat and material balances
    • Equipment sizing calculations
    • Equipment datasheets and technical specifications
    • Technical requisitions and bid evaluations
  • Supporting field activities, pilot testing programs, and technical investigations as required.
  • Collaborating with senior engineers and technical specialists to develop practical, innovative, and sustainable engineering solutions.
  • Building an understanding of client operations, business objectives, and project drivers to deliver solutions aligned with customer needs.
  • Managing multiple assignments effectively while maintaining quality, accuracy, and schedule commitments.
  • Contributing to a strong safety culture and supporting the achievement of Worley’s Target Zero objectives.
  • Participating in continual learning and professional development to build consulting, technical, and project delivery capabilities.
What You’ll Bring To The Role
  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
  • Typically, 1-5 years of relevant experience in industrial process water, wastewater treatment, process engineering, or a related field.
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) designation or eligibility, or professional engineering registration within the applicable jurisdiction.
  • Foundational knowledge of industrial water and wastewater treatment processes, water chemistry, and process engineering principles.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities with attention to detail.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities and project deadlines.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills with the ability to collaborate across multidisciplinary teams.
  • Demonstrated initiative, adaptability, and a strong commitment to continuous learning and professional growth.
  • Ability to contribute positively within a collaborative consulting environment while building trusted relationships with colleagues and clients.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and strong overall computer literacy.
Preferred Qualifications Include
  • Experience with process modeling software.
  • Programming experience using tools such as Python, VBA, C++, or C#.
  • Experience supporting field chemistry programs, bench-scale testing, or pilot-scale treatment studies.
  • Exposure to industrial facilities within energy, chemical processing, mining, manufacturing, or resource sectors.

For applicants based in the province of British Columbia, the salary range is $76,336 to $112,259.

Application of the pay band: Variation in salary is determined by factors such as the candidate’s qualifications, relevant years of experience, geographic location, internal pay equity, and prevailing market conditions for the specific role.
