Job summary

Worley seeks an entry-level Technical Consultant, Water Scientist for its Environmental & Sustainability team in Fort McMurray, AB. The role supports groundwater and surface water monitoring for an oil sands operation, with a 14-on/14-off rotation and travel to client sites as needed.

Qualifications

• Bachelor-level or diploma degree required; field experience beneficial.
• Junior/graduate-level experience in environmental field monitoring or reporting preferred.
• Strong written and spoken communication with project teams and stakeholders.
• Valid Class 5 Driver’s License and ability to work in remote field locations.

Responsibilities

Technical Consultant, Water Scientist

Play an integral role in Worley’s Environmental & Sustainability (E&S) team, supporting critical environmental monitoring programs for a leading oil sands operation in Fort McMurray, Alberta. This is an exciting early-career opportunity to contribute to sustainable resource development while gaining hands-on field experience, collaborating with experienced professionals, and building a strong foundation in environmental consulting.

Working within a multidisciplinary team, you will help collect, manage, and communicate environmental data that supports regulatory compliance, environmental stewardship, and informed decision-making. Purpose of the role

Join our dynamic team as a Technical Consultant, Water Scientist. In this role, you will support environmental field programs focused on groundwater and surface water monitoring for a major oil sands operation. You will work closely with experienced technical specialists and project teams to execute environmental monitoring activities, maintain high safety standards, and deliver reliable data and reporting that support our client’s environmental commitments and business objectives.

Location: Fort McMurray, Alberta, Canada

This role follows a 14-days-on, 14-days-off rotation, including mobilization and demobilization. Accommodation is provided at a lodge near the client site during rotations, and travel is required to support environmental field programs. Candidates may be based in Edmonton or Calgary and fly in/out to Fort McMurray.

You will be responsible for

• Supporting groundwater and surface water sampling and environmental monitoring programs in accordance with established procedures and project requirements.
• Collecting, documenting, and managing field data accurately and efficiently while maintaining strong attention to detail.
• Working under the guidance of experienced field supervisors and technical specialists to execute environmental monitoring activities safely and effectively.
• Assisting in the preparation of technical reports, data summaries, and presentations for project teams and clients.
• Supporting field activity tracking, documentation, and reporting requirements.
• Participating actively in health, safety, and environmental programs, including safety meetings, hazard assessments, and field documentation.
• Monitoring environmental and wildlife conditions, including bear awareness and observation activities, to help maintain safe field operations.
• Maintaining compliance with client, regulatory, and Worley safety and quality requirements.
• Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to support successful project execution and delivery.
• Representing Worley professionally while building positive working relationships with colleagues, contractors, and client stakeholders.

What You’ll Bring To The Role

• Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Engineering, Diploma in Natural Resource Science, Environmental Science, or a related discipline.
• Environmental monitoring or environmental technician training is considered beneficial.
• Junior or graduate-level experience supporting environmental field monitoring, sampling, data collection, or reporting activities.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills to communicate effectively with project teams and stakeholders.
• Ability to work safely and productively in remote field environments and wilderness settings.
• Physical capability to work outdoors, navigate uneven terrain, and perform field activities in varying weather conditions.
• Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and commitment to delivering high-quality work.
• Collaborative mindset with the ability to work effectively within team-based project environments.
• Previous environmental consulting experience is considered an asset.
• Familiarity with Argo operation is considered an asset.
• Valid Class 5 Driver’s License.
