Job summary

Electronic Arts Vancouver is seeking a Technical Artist to bridge artists and engineers, focusing on asset optimization, content integration, and game development. You will work closely with the art and game teams and tackle technical challenges with creative solutions.

The role emphasizes Python scripting and collaboration with 3D artists, bringing both artistic and engineering perspectives to projects. This is a 12-month hybrid onsite role based in Burnaby/Vancouver.

Qualifications

  • At least 2 years of modern game engine production and development experience.
  • Hands-on experience with in-game performance optimizations.
  • Experience with content workflows in game engines.
  • Professional programming experience; reading/writing C++ is a bonus.
  • Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in a related field.
  • Effective communication with artists, engineers and management.
  • A solutions-oriented approach to testing and debugging technical issues.
  • Willingness to tackle unknowns and think creatively in a fast-paced environment.
  • A Passion for Games is a plus.

Responsibilities

The EA SPORTS FC Tech Art team is a global community of technical creators, fueled by imagination and a unified passion to grow the love of sports for players worldwide through inspiring visuals and immersive experiences. We push visual boundaries and create leading-edge content across multiple disciplines.

Your Responsibilities:

The Technical Artist serves as a bridge between artists and engineers. They are considered part of the art team and work closely with artists, project managers, SEs and the Technical Art team. They also act as a point of contact with the game team partners, liaising between the art and game teams. The main areas of responsibility include asset optimization, content management/integration and game development. TAs are expected to assume ownership of any technical issues that arise on their projects and resolve them. You can be from an Art, Design, Mathematics, Engineering, or Computer Science background; however, you must demonstrate a comfort level with both art and science.

This role is focused on supporting our 3D artists, working with Python and DCCs.

Your Qualifications:
  • Ideally, at least 2 years of modern game engine production and development experience.
  • Hands-on experience in in-game performance-related optimizations.
  • Hands-on experience with content workflow in game engines.
  • Experience in professional programming. Being able to read and write C++ is a bonus.
  • A bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in a related field described in the responsibilities is desired.
  • Effective at communicating with different audiences: artists, engineers, and management.
  • A solutions provider, particularly as it pertains to testing and debugging technical issues.
  • A willingness to jump into the unknown and solve new problems;
  • A proven track record of the ability to think creatively to resolve technical challenges and limitations in a fast-paced environment.
  • A Passion for Games is a plus!
