Job summary

Seequent Limited in Toronto is seeking a Team Lead, Software Development to guide a skilled group of developers in delivering end-to-end platform capabilities. You will collaborate with development managers, product managers and designers to drive innovative, reliable software that meets functional and non-functional requirements.

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, or equivalent.
  • 7+ years in relevant Software Developer roles, including Senior Software Developer.
  • 1+ years leading a team (formal or informal).
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices.
  • Ability to work autonomously within an accountability framework and plan, monitor, escalate when needed to meet objectives.

The Position

A Team Lead, Software Development, leads a team of software developers, collaborating closely with development manager(s), product managers(s) and product designers(s) to deliver exceptional customer experiences. The position is responsible for the end-to-end design, development, and delivery of complex software systems and platform capabilities, while also providing leadership in performance and project management. This position requires deep senior technical expertise combined with people and project leadership capabilities to drive innovation and operational excellence.

In this role, you will have the opportunity to:
  • Provide design and architectural guidance for complex software applications, services, components, and modules while assessing and evaluating team recommendations.
  • Maintain hands‑on coding and champion software engineering best practices in line with current procedures and policies.
  • Accountable for the overall delivery and quality of new platform capabilities and software components to meet both functional and non‑functional requirements, including performance, security and compliance.
  • Ensure the team uses appropriate modelling techniques in line with agreed software design standards, guidelines, patterns, and methodologies.
  • Provide leadership to identify, evaluate, and recommend design alternatives and trade-offs.
  • Address any concerns in proposed models, mock‑ups, or prototype software to secure stakeholder approval and facilitate effective software construction.
  • Review, verify, and enhance designs against business and user requirements and lead reviews of others' designs.
  • Evaluate and enhance the effectiveness of current processes, products, and programs by applying research insights and integrating emerging technologies from the team.
  • Allocate tasks or project work, in line with team objectives and individual capabilities.
  • Assess quality and performance against established criteria in line with policies, practices, and procedures to make learning recommendations or elevate concerns.
  • Provide input for performance discussions regarding direct reports, including promotions and other employment decisions.
  • Take full responsibility for the definition, approach, facilitation and satisfactory completion of medium-scale projects.
  • Manage change control processes and assess risks, ensuring projects align with governance frameworks and business priorities.
  • Communicate regularly with cross functional stakeholders, ensuring project deliverables meet agreed standards, budgets, and timelines.
  • Proactively monitor performance metrics, implementing preventive and corrective actions as needed.
To be successful in this role, you should have:
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, or equivalent.
  • 7+ years working in relevant Software Developer roles, including Senior Software Developer.
  • 1+ years leading a team either formally or informally.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD Pipelines and DevOps practices.
  • Be able to work autonomously within a clear accountability framework, using discretion to address complex issues, while planning, monitoring, and escalating when needed to meet objectives within time and quality targets.
  • Ability to influence stakeholders and contribute to cross‑functional teams to meet user needs, facilitates collaboration, and make decisions impacting project success, while participating in activities related to your expertise.
  • Proficiency in handling diverse, complex technical or professional tasks, resolve issues through investigation, creative thinking, and innovative approaches.
  • Communicate complex ideas effectively, drive personal and team development, evaluate technologies, apply expertise to proposals, and ensure security, privacy, and ethical practices.
  • Possess industry and domain knowledge, quickly adapt to new information, and apply expertise effectively while sharing knowledge with others.

Hybrid based working environment, work from our Toronto, Ontario office two or more days per week.
