Job summary

You will supervise a skilled team and ensure safety compliance while driving production excellence. This position offers a dynamic work culture and a 6 days on/6 days off shift rotation. The ideal candidate has substantial experience in heavy equipment operations and leadership in a mining environment.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements
  • 3 years of heavy equipment operating experience.
  • 2 years of leadership experience, ideally within a unionized mining environment.
  • Mining engineers with a minimum of 2 years of hands-on field leadership experience are encouraged to apply.
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
  • Alberta Mine Safety Association (AMSA) certification required upon hire.
Responsibilities
  • Supervise and mentor a multi-skilled team, managing performance within the framework of the collective agreement.
  • Ensure strict adherence to workplace rules, procedures, and OH&S codes.
  • Conduct daily audits focused on safety, productivity, and competency.
  • Execute daily work priorities as set by mine planning and management, supporting daily operational goals and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Participate in daily safety, risk, and production update meetings with management.
  • Oversee assigned work areas—including shovel pits, haul roads, placement zones, mine dewatering, power distribution, and contractor activities—to ensure optimal resource allocation.
  • Verify completion of work assignments and investigate incidents or near misses, promoting positive action (HOP).
  • Support technical teams such as mine planning, survey, geotechnical, and geology as needed.
  • Present safety information to large groups during meetings, toolbox talks, and safety stand-downs.
  • Develop and apply business acumen in mining operations.
Location and other Key Details
  • You will work out of our Base Plant Mine in Fort McMurray, Alberta.
  • The shift schedule is a six days on/six days off rotation (three days on, three nights on, six days off; 12-hour shifts).
  • This position is safety sensitive.
  • If you reside outside of Fort McMurray, relocation of your primary residence to within 60 km of Fort McMurray is mandatory.
