Job summary

Nanaimo Ladysmith Public Schools (NLPS) is seeking Teachers Teaching On-Call (TTOCs) to join our on-call list, providing flexible teaching support across NLPS classrooms.

As a TTOC, you’ll deliver quality instruction, support curriculum goals, and meet the diverse needs of students. Successful candidates are certified or actively registered with the BC Teacher Regulation Branch and hold a Bachelor’s in Education. Employment is on-call and based on district needs.

Qualifications

  • Certified through the BC Teacher Regulation Branch or evidence of active registration in progress.
  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Education is required.
  • Successful classroom teacher experience and/or student teaching experience in a school setting.
  • Demonstrated proficiency to work with colleagues and students in knowledge producing and knowledge sharing.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain skills through professional learning.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare courses for presentation to students according to approved curriculum.
  • Teach students using a systematic plan of lessons, discussions, audio visual presentations and field trips.
  • Lead students in activities to promote their physical, mental and social development, and their school readiness.
  • Assess students and evaluate results.
  • Discuss results with students, parents and school officials.
  • Identify children's individual learning needs.
  • Participate in the preparation and implementation of remedial programs for students requiring extra help.
  • May supervise educational assistants and student teachers.
  • May specialize in subject or instructional areas.

Education

About the Role:

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

Teachers working with NLPS carry out educational tasks such as establishing learning objectives and specifying the strategies and actions to achieve such objectives, identifying educational needs, developing educational programs and activities, as well as teaching and instructing students. Performing some or all the following duties:

  • Prepare courses for presentation to students according to approved curriculum.
  • Teach students using a systematic plan of lessons, discussions, audio visual presentations and field trips.
  • Lead students in activities to promote their physical, mental and social development, and their school readiness.
  • Assess students and evaluate results.
  • Discuss results with students, parents and school officials.
  • Identify children's individual learning needs.
  • Participate in the preparation and implementation of remedial programs for students requiring extra help.
  • May be expected to supervise educational assistants and student teachers.
  • May specialize in subject or instructional areas.

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • Certified through the BC Teacher Regulation Branch or evidence of active registration in progress.
  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Education is required.
  • Successful classroom teacher experience and/or student teaching experience in a school setting.
  • Demonstrated proficiency to work with colleagues and students in knowledge producing and knowledge sharing.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain skills through professional learning.

Assignment: Teachers Teaching On-Call (TTOC), work on an on-call basis, and once onboarded, successful candidates will commence being called for work as soon as practicable and based on operational needs.

Salary: The salary ranges from $62,657 - $113,004per annum and is based on TQS categories and years of experience.

Please note: NLPS had a TTOC interviewing and hiring blitz prior to the end of the school year previously (spring/summer 2026) and will be conducting another interviewing and hiring blitz in early October (fall 2026).
