Job summary

T̓łisa̱lagi'lakw School in British Columbia invites applications for two classroom teachers reporting to the Principal. You will teach in a grade split (likely 2/3 or 3/4), involve family and community, and prepare comprehensive lesson plans aligned with the BC Curriculum.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Education or equivalent with teaching certification.
  • Active BC College of Teachers membership in good standing.
  • Satisfactory Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Search.

Responsibilities

  • Teach students as assigned (likely grade split 2/3 or 3/4).
  • Involve family and community members in classroom activities.
  • Prepare yearly through daily lesson plans.
  • Evaluate and report on student progress regularly.
  • Incorporate Kwak̓wala language and Kwakwak’wawk culture where possible.
  • Collaborate with Inclusive Education Coordinator/Teacher and Educational Assistants.
  • Participate in school supervisory and extra-curricular teams.
  • Attend meetings and professional development activities.
  • Maintain up-to-date records and use educational technology.
  • Follow BC Curriculum.

Job description

T̓łisa̱lagi'lakw School is accepting applications for two classroom Teachers, reporting to the Principal.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Teach students of T̓łisa̱lagi'lakw School as assigned (likely a grade split - 2/3 or 3/4)
  • Involve family and community members in classroom activities
  • Prepare yearly, monthly, weekly, and daily lesson plans
  • Evaluate and report on students’ intellectual, social, and academic progress regularly
  • Accommodate, plan for, and support students with diverse abilities and disabilities
  • Consult and collaborate regularly with school administration, the Inclusive Education Coordinator/Teacher and Educational Assistants
  • Participate as a member of the school supervisory and extra-curricular teams
  • Provide written reports three times a year and attend home-school connections meetings and student-led conferences
  • Attend all applicable staff meetings
  • Adhere to ‘Namagis First Nation Human Resources Policy’
  • Participate in the school-based teams and school committees as required
  • Attend Professional Development activities, workshops, and trainings as required
  • Follow and implement the British Columbia Curriculum
  • Incorporate Kwakwakʼwawk culture and Kwak̓wala language as much as possible
  • Maintain up to date records as required by the Principal
  • Be familiar with and use current educational technology and trends as necessary
  • Participate and contribute to the following: Self-Directed Learning; Land-Based and Bioregional Education; Traditional Ecological Knowledge; Democratic Education; Inquiry-Based Learning; Project-Based Learning; Trauma-Informed Practice; and Social-Emotional Learning.
SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
  • Working knowledge of the British Columbia Curriculum
  • Able to plan, organize, and maintain student records effectively
  • Able to lead, motivate, encourage, support, and empower students
  • Strong interpersonal, collaborative, literacy, numeracy, and communication skills
  • Strong background in computer-related skills and ability to integrate into teaching
  • Previous experience working in a First Nations community preferred
EDUCATION / QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Education or undergraduate degree with teaching certificate
  • Member in good standing with the British Columbia College of Teachers
  • Satisfactory Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Search through CRRP
