SPECIAL EDUCATION TEACHER

Lach Klan School in Kitkatla, British Columbia invites applicants for a K-12 Special Education Teacher position for the 2026/2027 school year. We are looking for a multi-talented teacher who has curricular and co-curricular teaching abilities that will provide support to student academics, culture and language, fine arts and athletics.

Located in Lach Klan (Kitkatla) on the pristine coast of British Columbia, this unique school serves approximately 80 students from the Gitxaala Nation. The school strives to provide educational services to ensure every member of our community is part of our teaching/learning team. We appreciate and celebrate individual uniqueness and actively support students and staff in a quest for excellence in all that we do.

Our School is a wonderful Pre-Kindergarten to Grade 12 facility that is governed by a strong school philosophy of care, love and respect for each and every member of our community. We have wonderful school facilities and top quality subsidized teacherages for our staff.

Qualifications, Knowledge and Experience:
  • Takes the lead on IEP development, collaboration and implementation
  • Knowledge of Special Education Program Funding Application and Reporting Guidelines from First Nations Education Steering Committee (FNESC)
  • Instructs and supports instruction of identified students, using various teaching methods
  • Prepares relevant course objectives and outlines for courses of study following curriculum guidelines and related resources to support classroom inclusive, pullout and traditional methods of instruction
  • Evaluate student progress, records results, and issues reports to inform parents of progress
  • Participates in staff and professional meetings, educational conferences, and teacher training workshops
  • University degree in an appropriate field preferred (Special Education) or a combination of degree and related experience
  • Culture sensitivity, with preference given to teachers with experience in First Nation settings.
  • Knowledge and practical experience with Read Well, Reading Mastery and DIBELS an asset
  • Ability and commitment to build strong relationships with staff, students, parents and the community
  • BCTRB Membership
  • Criminal record check (current)
