Job Overview

We are seeking an experienced Tax Manager responsible for overseeing all aspects of tax compliance, preparing quarterly tax provisions, planning and strategic tax planning, and ensuring adherence to federal and state / provincial tax regulations across Canada and the U.S. The role requires strong knowledge of either Canadian or U.S. tax regulations, with a high-level understanding of the other country's regulations, including indirect taxes (GST / HST, PST, sales & use tax), and transfer pricing. The ideal candidate is proactive, detail-oriented, and capable of navigating complex tax structures while ensuring compliance with evolving tax laws.

Location & Work Model

This role is based in our Halifax office and follows a hybrid work model, requiring in-office presence twice per week. Relocation assistance is available.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Collaborate with external tax advisors to support the organization’s tax strategy, optimizing tax efficiency and positioning funds for optimal after-tax returns.

  • Assist in analyzing tax implications of business initiatives, acquisitions, and restructurings.
  • Monitor tax legislation changes and assess their impact on the business.
  • Tax Compliance & Reporting

Oversee all tax requirements, ensuring timely and accurate filing of income and transaction tax returns across jurisdictions.

  • Ensure compliance with regulations such as Reg 105 Non-Resident Tax.
  • Manage preparation of corporate tax returns and other compliance reports, including country-by-country reporting and Global Minimum Tax.
  • Oversee indirect tax compliance (GST / HST, PST, sales & use tax).
  • Lead tax audits and inquiries, coordinating responses efficiently.
  • Transfer Pricing & Intercompany Transactions

Maintain and oversee transfer pricing policies.

  • Support intercompany transactions, ensuring compliance with policies and proper documentation.
  • Collaborate with external advisors to align policies with global regulations.
  • Tax Accounting & Reporting

Perform initial tax provisions for financial reporting under IFRS and GAAP.

  • Reconcile tax accounts and support tax forecasting and budgeting.
  • Coordinate with external auditors for financial reporting.
  • Process Improvement & Risk Management

Identify opportunities for process automation and improvement in tax compliance.

  • Develop internal controls to mitigate tax risks.
  • Act as escalation point for taxation issues.

Qualifications

  • CPA, CA or equivalent; Master’s in Tax or In-Depth Tax Course is an asset.
  • 4+ years of tax experience in finance or accounting.
  • Strong knowledge of Canadian or U.S. corporate tax, indirect tax, and transfer pricing regulations.
  • Experience managing tax audits and liaising with tax authorities.
  • Proficiency in tax accounting under IFRS.
  • Familiarity with cross-border transactions and tax treaties.
  • Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Stay updated with new tax legislation impacting the organization.
