Mid-Level Tax Litigation Lawyer (4–8 years of experience)

  • Case Management: Manage a portfolio of tax litigation files under the supervision of senior lawyers, while mentoring junior associates.
  • Strategic Planning: Develop case strategy, prepare detailed submissions, and argue in Tax Court / Federal Court, where applicable.
  • Client Counseling: Advise clients on legal risks, potential outcomes, and strategic options to resolve or mitigate tax disputes.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with senior lawyers on complex files; supervise and review the work of junior lawyers.

Senior Tax Litigation Lawyer (8+ years of experience)

  • Leadership: Lead and supervise complex tax litigation matters, from pre-litigation strategies to trial and appellate work.
  • Client Relationship Management: Serve as the primary contact for clients, providing high-level advice and building long-term client relationships.
  • Team Mentorship: Oversee the professional development of junior and mid-level lawyers; provide guidance on legal strategies and firm best practices.
  • Firm Development: Contribute to the growth of the firm through business development, networking, and thought leadership in the tax litigation space.

Qualifications:

  • Education: LL.B. or J.D. degree from an accredited law school; member in good standing of a Canadian law society.
  • Technical Skills: Proven knowledge of Canadian tax laws and regulations. Strong research, analytical, and drafting abilities. Familiarity with Tax Court / Federal Court procedures related to tax disputes.
  • Soft Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to manage competing priorities and tight deadlines effectively. Strong interpersonal and client-facing skills. Team player with a proactive attitude and attention to detail.
