About the Role:

Our client, a rapidly expanding national service organization, seeks a proactive Tax Consultant for a 6-month contract. This role involves managing corporate tax processes, handling various tax filings related to acquisitions, and ensuring compliance. The initial focus will be clearing a backlog of tax returns and entity closures, transitioning to routine compliance work.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage corporate income tax filings (T5s, T4s, EHT) across provinces.
  • Handle various tax filings (EHT, WSIB, provincial health taxes).
  • Oversee jurisdictional data, track filings and account cancellations.
  • Manage acquisition control returns and coordinate with external firms.
  • Manage cancellation of tax accounts and maintain compliance checklists.
  • Prepare and submit final tax returns and work with legal to close entities.
  • Coordinate with previous owners/accountants for prior tax years and stub year filings.
  • Inform authorities (CRA, registrar) of entity closures.
  • Perform legwork to ensure timely filings and closures.
Qualifications:
  • Strong organizational and independent work skills.
  • Detail-oriented with strong income and general tax knowledge.
  • Broad understanding of multi-provincial tax regulations and forms.
  • Proven experience in corporate income tax, EHT, WSIB, and provincial taxes.
  • Experience with CRA, Quebec, and Alberta filings (T5s, T4s, NR4s, T2000, T2002).
  • Experience managing acquisition control returns and tax account cancellations.
  • Strong communication skills for liaising with stakeholders.
  • Must have strong corporate tax and project experience.
  • Familiarity with tax preparation software.
