Job summary

BGC Engineering Inc. is looking for a North America–based Geotechnical or Geological Engineer with expertise in tailings dam design. The successful candidate will lead a multidisciplinary team and ensure the design, construction, operation, and closure of tailings storage facilities.

The Role

BGC is seeking a North America–based Geotechnical or Geological Engineer with experience in tailings dam design and construction. The successful candidate will serve as the tailings storage facility Engineer of Record (EoR) and lead a multidisciplinary team to design and support the construction, operation, and closure of a tailings storage facility (TSF). The position can be based in any BGC North American office.

Required Education, Experience & Competencies
  • Demonstrated competency and experience in tailings management.
  • Undergraduate degree in Civil or Geological Engineering.
  • Registered as a Professional Engineer in North America.
  • 10+ years of relevant work experience in tailings management, dam design, or mining geotechnical engineering.
  • Current knowledge of applicable regulations, including the Global Industry Standard on Tailings Management (GISTM) and other relevant guidelines and standards.
  • Experience in all phases of tailings projects: site investigation, design, construction, operations, and closure.
  • Strong leadership, analytical, project management, and communication skills.
  • Maintain a valid passport and be willing to travel as required for project work and networking.
Position Requirements
  • Drug & Alcohol Testing: Employees may be required to take a drug and alcohol test prior to engaging in field work. Testing may also be requested within the first week of employment, or in the future as required.
  • Driver’s License: Employees must have a valid driver’s license and be able to drive a field pickup truck. A driver’s abstract will be required for a safety review of driving history upon hiring.
  • Travel and Vaccination: Employees may be required to receive vaccinations such as yellow fever, COVID-19, malaria, etc., to meet travel and client requirements.

The estimated base salary range for this position is $125,000-$250,000 CAD per annum, with base pay commensurate with job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. BGC’s compensation package also includes a training allowance and a comprehensive medical and dental plan.
