Job summary

The Vancouver School Board is seeking a Multi-Cultural Liaison Support with Tagalog Fluency to serve at the Newcomer Welcome Centre and multiple VSB sites. This 100% in-person role bridges language and cultural gaps to support students and families across the district.

Responsibilities include interpretation in meetings, aiding Filipino communities to navigate the school system, and translating between English and Tagalog.

Qualifications

• Tagalog fluency required in verbal and written form.
• Completion of grade 12 plus 2 years of post-secondary education or a diploma in relevant fields.
• Minimum of two years of related work experience.
• Knowledge of cultural adaptation in educational settings.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs.

Responsibilities

• Assist Filipino-speaking students to understand the school system and participate in education.
• Assist staff with educational and social development, including interviews and relaying information.
• Provide interpretation in one-to-one and group meetings, by phone or in person.
• Liaise among district staff, school counselors, teachers, administrators, students and parents.
• Provide translation between English and Tagalog for staff and families.
• Deliver professional development on cultural competency to staff.
• Perform school and student support duties for the district and schools.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
