Job summary

The Vancouver School Board invites applications for a Multi-Cultural Liaison Support with Tagalog Fluency (School & Student Support B). This in-person role supports students and families, translating and interpreting in English and Tagalog across school sites in Vancouver.

Candidates should have a high school diploma plus two years of post-secondary education in relevant fields or a diploma, plus two years of related experience.

Qualifications

  • Completion of grade 12 plus 2 years of post-secondary education or a diploma in Psychology, Sociology, Social Work, Child and Youth Care, Immigration/Migration studies, Ethnic/Cultural/Indigenous studies, Human Development and Family studies, Applied Behaviour Science or Education.
  • Minimum of two years of related work experience.
  • Extensive knowledge of cultural adaptation challenges in an educational setting.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and ability to navigate school/community resources.

Responsibilities

  • Assist students from Filipino-speaking communities to maximize benefit from the school system and help families participate in education.
  • Provide interpretation in one-to-one and group settings, and during meetings and inquiries.
  • Serve as liaison among district staff, school staff, students, parents, and communities.
  • Translate between English and Tagalog and provide cultural competency development for staff.
  • Support school and student services and perform related duties as needed.
