The Role
Venture Computers is looking for a motivated and experienced Systems Administrator to join our managed services team. As a Systems Administrator, you will interact with clients to help design, manage and troubleshoot their IT systems and serve as an escalation point for L1 and L2 technicians. You will have a wide range of experience with different systems, a passion for learning new technologies, and a keen attention to detail. You should enjoy solving complex technical problems and helping clients get the most out of their IT.
Roles & Responsibilities
- Perform remote and on-site tech support of hardware, software and network issues for various clients
- Design and implement network and server solutions to fulfill clients' business requirements
- Proactively monitor ticketing system to ensure timely resolution of client tech support issues
- Keep customers informed of incident progress, notify them of upcoming changes or outages
- Follow change management procedure for all changes to client environments while striving to maintain industry Best Practices within all client sites
- Discuss solutions/incidents/requests with a diverse group of technical personnel, managers, and executives
- Access industry resources including product documentation, knowledge base articles, FAQs, and online resources to aid in incident resolutions
- Assist technical support team members with any issues needing help or escalation
- Strive to understand and improve IT infrastructure and help build standards to improve client reliability and maintainability
- Work with assigned project leads and project managers, working assigned tasks and within defined project scope and milestones to ensure the successful deployment of projects for our clients
- Assist the project management team with creating IT proposals and plans
- Professionally document all work performed and submit accurate timesheets
- Leverage front-line client experience to identify sales opportunities
- Work with sales to create proposals for clients for new equipment or services
- Perform additional duties as directed by management in relation to your area of expertise
Technical Skills
Experience Managing, Configuring And Deploying The Following
- Microsoft Windows Server 2016+
- Microsoft SQL Server 2016+
- Microsoft Hyper-V 2008+
- Microsoft 365 Identity and Access Management, Exchange Online, SharePoint, and Intune
- Microsoft Azure
- VMware vSphere 7.0+
- Cisco, Palo Alto, and Juniper switches, routers, and firewalls
- Network monitoring systems (SNMP, syslog, NetFlow)
- Backup software including Veeam and Datto
- RAID including various RAID controllers and general RAID knowledge
- SAN and NAS devices including iSCSI and NFS configuration
- VoIP including: FreePBX, Asterisk, Cisco UC, Microsoft Teams, etc.
Preferred Skills
Our ideal candidate may have experience with:
- Microsoft 365 Purview, Dynamics, Power Automate, and Fabric
- Routing, VLAN, and VPN technologies
- Automation and scripting, preferably in PowerShell
- Linux server administration
Qualifications
- University or college degree in IT or related field is preferred
- 10+ years experience working in IT Industry
- 2+ years minimum experience working at a managed IT services provider (MSP) in a System Administrator capacity
- Obtained industry certifications such as Cisco, Microsoft, VMware, Palo Alto, Veeam
- Be proactive in nature, identifying problems in advance and looking for continuous service improvement opportunities
- Ability to multi-task with multiple clients under tight deadlines
- Ability to conduct research into a wide range of computing issues is required
- Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment
- Possess and demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Possess and demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills is a must as this is a customer-facing role
- Proven technical, analytical and problem-solving skills
- Highly self-motivated and directed with a passion for technology and IT
- Valid Ontario driver’s license – some client on-site visits may be required
- Typical business hour are Monday to Friday 9AM – 5:30PM, with afterhours work and on-call required. Overtime may be required but will be compensated
