Job description

Software Full Time Canada Hybrid $90,000 - $124,000 CAD per year

Founded and based in Richmond, BC, Ideon Technologies uses the energy from supernova explosions in space to image deep beneath the Earth’s surface. The world pioneer in cosmic-ray muon tomography, Ideon has developed the REVEAL™ Subsurface Intelligence Platform™, comprising an advanced suite of proprietary data-generation hardware, software, AI-powered services, and multi-physics fusion that provide x-ray-like visibility deep underground and unlock the exponential power of integrated spatial data.

By transforming muon data into reliable 3D density maps, Ideon helps geologists identify, map, characterize, and monitor mineral deposits with confidence. This reduces risk and cost of traditional methods, while saving time, optimizing return, and minimizing environmental impact across the mining value chain. In turn, this is helping accelerate the world’s transition to low-impact mining and transform how companies recover the critical minerals required to power the global shift to clean energy – improving peoples’ lives and enhancing economic prosperity.

We are a dynamic tech scale-up of 70 employees (and growing!). We are a team that is entrepreneurial by nature and focused on doing things right to deliver great customer outcomes. And we are committed to seeking out the best brains and the most exceptional humans, wherever they come from and however they happen to be packaged.

The Role

We are seeking a System Administrator to support the reliable, secure, and efficient operation of Ideon’s IT systems and provide responsive technical support to employees. This role offers an opportunity to build broad system administration experience while contributing to mission-critical IT activities in a fast-growing technology company.

Reporting to the Senior System Administrator, you will work in a Linux and Windows hybrid environment with a mix of on-premises and Azure cloud infrastructure. You will receive guidance on complex work while developing the technical knowledge, judgement, and practical experience needed to take on increasing responsibility.

You will work collaboratively with the Senior System Administrator, DevOps specialists, software developers, data scientists, employees, and external vendors. You will focus on the following activities:

  • Investigating and resolving routine office hardware, software, account, and connectivity issues, escalating complex problems as needed
  • Providing proactive and responsive technical support to employees and maintaining clear updates through the IT ticketing system
  • Supporting employee onboarding and offboarding, including equipment preparation, account provisioning, access changes, and asset recovery
  • Supporting the administration of Microsoft Entra ID, Microsoft 365, SharePoint, and other business applications
  • Assisting with the setup, maintenance, monitoring, and troubleshooting of Linux and Windows servers and workstations
  • Applying approved software patches, updates, and security configurations
  • Supporting network, wireless access point, firewall, switch, router, and VPN administration and troubleshooting
  • Monitoring system health, backups, security alerts, and performance using established tools and procedures
  • Performing routine backup checks and supporting recovery testing
  • Maintaining accurate asset inventories, configuration records, procedures, and other IT documentation
  • Communicating planned IT changes and service interruptions clearly to employees
  • Supporting cybersecurity activities, audits, vulnerability remediation, and business continuity testing
  • Working with external vendors and service providers as directed
  • Identifying practical opportunities to improve, automate, or standardize routine IT work

Priorities in the first few months will include:

  • Building effective working relationships with the Senior System Administrator and employees across the company
  • Taking ownership of routine help-desk requests and maintaining clear, timely ticket updates
  • Supporting employee onboarding, offboarding, account administration, and device deployment
  • Take ownership of at least one core system (endpoint, network, backup or user management)
  • Completing an accurate review of assigned IT assets, user accounts, licences, and documentation

Job Requirements

Location: Our office is located at #150 - 4611 Viking Way, just off the No. 6 Road exit on the east‑west connector in Richmond, BC, Canada. Lots of free parking is available and a bus stop is one block away.

Ideon is a hybrid workplace, with some roles needing to work fully in office for obvious reasons (it’s tricky to manufacture from home!).

This is a hybrid role. We love seeing our employees in the office a few times a week (2-3 days depending on team needs); you’re welcome to work from home the remainder of the week or come into the office all 5 days if that’s your preference.

Hours of work: 8 hours/day, Monday to Friday. Our typical working hours are 9AM-5PM Pacific Standard Time; some employees shift slightly earlier or later based on business and personal needs. You may occasionally be asked to be flexible with your hours due to business requirements.

On call work: After-hours work is fairly minimal; when needed it is shared with others on the team on rotation.

What We Offer

Salary: The annual salary range for this role, in Canadian dollars, is $90,000–$124,000.

Ideon’s salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Vancouver, BC, Canada is the market we benchmark against. The range reflects the minimum and maximum new employee salary. It is not typical for a new employee to be hired at the top of the range; as experienced as someone may be they likely won’t have the directly applicable experience unique to working at Ideon. In exceptional circumstances, though, where a candidate has the knowledge, skills, and experience to far exceed those needed for the position, we could consider compensating at the top of the range. In the application process you will be asked to provide your salary expectations. If you move forward in the hiring process, in our initial conversation we’ll also clarify expectations and provide additional info on what Ideon’s total compensation package includes.

  • An opportunity to work with a dynamic technology start‑up and spin-off from TRIUMF (Canada’s national particle physics laboratory) as we scale up our business rapidly. You will be working to advance a ground‑breaking solution that generates significant economic and environmental benefit.
  • A team that is entrepreneurial by nature, mission‑driven, and focused on doing things right to deliver great customer outcomes. We are committed to seeking out the best brains and the most exceptional humans, wherever they come from and however they happen to be packaged.
  • Early equity option allocations upon hire plus the opportunity to earn performance‑based option allocations annually.
  • Accreditation and tuition support.
  • Extended health and dental benefits, an employee assistance program, and a health/wellness spending account to cover things that may not fall into other categories (i.e. exercise classes, transit, daycare).
  • An annual paid closure between the Christmas and New Year’s stat holidays, in addition to vacation time.
  • Parental leave top‑up.
  • Employee referral bonus.
  • Casual dress – we like our jeans and hoodies.
  • While we work hard we also sprinkle social events and learning opportunities into our days.
  • Free parking.
  • Tasty snacks in our office!
