Job description

Operations Full Time Richmond, BC $85,000 - $110,000 CAD per year

Founded and based in Richmond, BC, Ideon Technologies uses the energy from supernova explosions in space to image deep beneath the Earth’s surface. The world pioneer in cosmic-ray muon tomography, Ideon has developed the REVEAL™ Subsurface Intelligence Platform™, comprising an advanced suite of proprietary data-generation hardware, software, AI-powered services, and multi-physics fusion that provide x-ray-like visibility deep underground and unlock the exponential power of integrated spatial data.

By transforming muon data into reliable 3D density maps, Ideon helps geologists identify, map, characterize, and monitor mineral deposits with confidence. This reduces risk and cost of traditional methods, while saving time, optimizing return, and minimizing environmental impact across the mining value chain. In turn, this is helping accelerate the world’s transition to low-impact mining and transform how companies recover the critical minerals required to power the global shift to clean energy – improving peoples’ lives and enhancing economic prosperity.

We are a dynamic tech scale-up of 80 employees (and growing!). We are a team that is entrepreneurial by nature and focused on doing things right to deliver great customer outcomes. And we are committed to seeking out the best brains and the most exceptional humans, wherever they come from and however they happen to be packaged.

The Role

We are seeking a Manufacturing Process Engineer to join our Manufacturing team and serve as the bridge between product designs and production execution. You will help us to smoothly transition engineering designs into manufacturing by focusing on process development, SOPs, and tooling.

You will play a critical role in upholding our high technical standards while directly enabling value to our customers. You are not satisfied with "good enough" — you push for excellence in every process you design, from SOPs to quality controls, because a well-built process is what turns a great design into a reliably manufacturable product.

You are a detailed and hands‑on person by nature, have excellent hand-eye coordination, and take pride in a job well done – especially when it involves complex components or intricate assembly.

You will report to the Manufacturing Manager and work in a team setting with manufacturing professionals, physicists, hardware engineers.

You will impact and drive Ideon’s objectives forward by focusing on the following activities:

  • Assemble and manufacture advanced high-tech imaging sensors and other supporting equipment.
  • Receive released designs from the Hardware Engineering team and lead the transition from prototype to first article production, including developing SOPs, ensuring quality control readiness, creating training plans, training manufacturing team members, and assembling products.
  • Implement new manufacturing methods, processes, and tooling to support the introduction of new products into production.
  • Solve day-to-day production challenges by identifying hardware issues and communicating them to the Hardware Engineering team.
  • Collaborate with Operations team members to identify and evaluate alternate parts for critical components, participating in the qualification process.
  • Support first article production for newly released products by documenting key findings and leading solutions in collaboration with hardware engineers and manufacturing specialists.
  • Drive successful execution of manufacturing projects using PDCA, Kaizen, Poka-Yoke and other lean manufacturing methods.
  • Perform monthly preventive and corrective maintenance of production equipment.
  • Own the identification, investigation, and correction of defects in the production equipment, including floor repairs and reconfiguration.
  • Create and refine manufacturing systems to improve quality and support scalability.
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for manufacturing contractors and vendors to communicate changes in the product designs and manufacturing processes.

Success in the role looks like:

  • Effectively transition hardware designs from prototype to production by creating clear SOPs, quality controls, and training materials for the manufacturing team.
  • Maintain smooth and reliable production by resolving technical issues, supporting first article builds, and ensuring equipment performance.
  • Drive continuous improvement and scalability through process optimization, lean methods, and strong cross‑functional collaboration.
  • Build imaging sensors following approved SOPs, quality control methods, and other manufacturing standards.

Priorities in the first few months will include:

  • Develop a strong understanding of Ideon’s safety, quality, and manufacturing processes, including product designs, manufacturing processes, and production workflows via existing SOP and training materials. [Month 1]
  • Gain hands‑on experience building imaging sensors and assist with preventive maintenance activities. [Month 1]
  • Document findings for first article builds and create SOPs, work instructions, and training documentation for new products and processes. [Month 2]
  • Identify and address day-to-day production and hardware issues, escalating to the Hardware Engineering team when needed and seeing fixes through to completion. [Month 2]
  • Fully own transfer activities from engineering to production, implementing new processes, tooling, and improvements. [Month 3]
  • Ensure production equipment reliability through consistent maintenance and defect ownership. [Month 3]

Qualifications

Must-haves – You’ll need the following to move forward in the hiring process (and be successful in the role).

  • Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Mechanical, Mechatronics, Robotics, Electrical, Electronics, Manufacturing, or Physics‑related disciplines.

  • Experience in careful assembly involving small and often delicate components.
  • Experience with 3D printing and designs.
  • Reliable, motivated, and capable of working on a defined schedule.
  • Strong technical documentation skills, including processes, observations, and key findings.
  • Knowledge of lean manufacturing tools.
  • Experience using and properly caring for a variety of hand tools, measurement devices, and operating equipment (e.g. multimeters, calipers).
  • Able to read and interpret technical documents such as dimensional drawings, measurement data, work instructions, and standard operating procedures.
  • Experience championing a health and safety culture; awareness of health and safety requirements (e.g. WHMIS, housekeeping).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft tools.
  • Enthusiasm for AI‑enabled work with the critical thinking to question results and enhance as needed.
  • Well‑developed communication skills in English at a fluent or professional level; able to be assertive and respectful
  • Legally able and currently documented to work full time hours in Canada

We also look for the following from all new Ideon team members:

  • Experience in or excitement for working in a tech scale‑up; happy to wear a few hats and adjust on the fly.
  • An ambitious, can‑do attitude; you get that we’re doing challenging work and are excited to dive in.
  • Enthusiastic and confident to take initiative and be adaptable in an agile, fast‑paced environment.

  • Able to work well under pressure and to meet committed deadlines.
  • Great interpersonal skills; able to build relationships with colleagues, customers, and external stakeholders.
  • Able to contribute something “extra” to our culture beyond the work that you do, like wowing people with your home‑baked goods, sharing improv comedy skills, or organizing sports games.

Nice‑to‑haves – While it would be nice to if you had some of the below, we’re happy to train, coach and share our experience.

  • Hands‑on experience with electronic assemblies, including PCBs, connectors, and other electronic components.
  • Familiarity with the handling and manufacturing of high‑tech, sensitive, or electro‑mechanical components.
  • Proven ability to work effectively in a high‑volume, fast‑paced manufacturing environment while maintaining quality standards.
