Join our Telecommunications Department! Our Telecommunications team plays a pivotal role in matters relating to locating voicemail, pagers, telephone handsets, hands-free devices, assisted devices, and the telephone network. We are currently seeking a Switchboard Operator to join our Telecommunications Department. This individual will process a high volume of incoming and outgoing calls, including assisting with patient inquiries and paging of support staff and/or Physicians. Employment Status: Duration (if contract): Hours of Work: Available to work all rotating shifts (Days, Evenings, Nights & Weekends) Location: Labour Group: Teamsters Clerical / LiUNA Reporting Relationship: Manager, Telecommunications Hourly Rate: $28.072 - $29.070

Position Responsibilities:

  • Process a very high volume of incoming and outgoing calls, including assistance with patient inquiries quickly and efficiently.
  • Assist on outgoing calls and page all support staff and/or Physicians as required.
  • Locate physicians and on-call staff for multiple departments and ensure on-call staff is contacted as quickly and efficiently as possible within individual program protocol.
  • Provide batteries for Physicians and sign out spare pagers.
  • Assist with orientation and training of new telecommunication staff.

Requirements:

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills required.
  • A positive attendance record required.
  • Previous experience on Avaya phone system and console in a healthcare/hospital environment.
  • Demonstrated customer service and telephone skills required; one year experience preferred.
  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Good organizational and problem-solving skills required, including the ability to multi-task and prioritize a varied and busy workload with frequent interruptions and emergency situations.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision in a team environment.
  • Knowledgeable and compliant with new privacy legislation.
  • Knowledge of a second language is an asset.
  • Good keyboarding skills, with a minimum typing speed of 40 WPM. Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Knowledge of PETALMD software.
  • Meditech experience is an asset.
  • Excellent attendance and discipline-free record required.

Applicants may be required to successfully complete full administrative testing, including typing speed and MS Office.
