Your Opportunity
Stantec’s Geomatics team has several immediate full-time opportunities for the role of Survey Technologist in Northern Alberta.
Your Key Responsibilities
- Promote a culture of safety by complying with Stantec and client safety systems, policies, procedures, and environmental requirements.
- Perform Oilsands-related surveys and locate buried facilities with minimal supervision.
- Conduct comprehensive topographic, legal, bathymetric, earthworks, and civil construction surveys.
- Plan blast drill hole positions, shovel digging lines, ramp gradients, and berm designs.
- Conduct 3D Laser Scanning and aerial drone surveys of the mine site.
- Collaborate and share survey data with engineering, QA/QC, and contract personnel.
- Prepare and maintain sketches, maps, and reports describing survey work.
- Ensure survey data quality according to the Data Quality Management System.
- Manage survey data using AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Trimble Business Center, or similar software (asset).
- Communicate effectively with Project Managers regarding progress, scope changes, HSSE reporting, and project impacts.
- Assist with field training, crew supervision, or crew coordination on larger projects, depending on experience.
- Perform routine survey functions for mining advancement and support mine optimization projects.
Your Capabilities and Credentials
- Execute surveys safely, accurately, and efficiently.
- Trace buried facilities using Electromagnetic Locating techniques.
- Proficient with 3D Laser Scanners, GPS, drones, total stations, and Locators; knowledge of Trimble equipment is an asset.
- Possess a valid Vehicle Operator’s License with a clean driving record.
- Pass pre-employment tests including alcohol, drug, fitness, audiometric, vision, criminal record, and driving screening.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Education and Experience
- Minimum of 1 year of surveying experience as a Party Chief on Oil & Gas and construction projects/sites.
- Degree or diploma in Geomatics or Civil Engineering from a recognized institution is preferred but not required.
This position requires travel across Alberta and extended out-of-town work.
