Job summary

Stantec is seeking an entry-level Survey Technician/Assistant for the Geospatial Group in Markham, Ontario. You will support surveying activities using GNSS, laser scanners, and conventional tools, under the supervision of the Survey Party Chief.

You will handle field notes, data downloads, and equipment maintenance, while upholding OHSA and Stantec HSSE policies. A valid driver’s license and willingness to travel across southwestern Ontario are required.

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education in Geomatics, Civil Engineering Technology, or related field is preferred but not required.
  • Experience with Robotic Total Stations, GNSS survey equipment, laser scanners, and digital levels is a significant asset.
  • Ability to perform physically demanding tasks outdoors in all weather conditions.

Responsibilities

  • Perform surveying tasks using GNSS, digital levels, 3D laser scanners, and conventional equipment.
  • Assist Survey Party Chief with surveying and construction layout tasks.
  • Prepare field notes/sketches and manage field data downloads/uploads.
  • Maintain field equipment and vehicles.

Our Markham office has an opportunity for an entry-level Survey Technician/Assistant within our Geospatial Group.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Perform surveying tasks using GNSS survey instruments, digital levels, 3D laser scanners, and conventional survey equipment.

  • Assist the Survey Party Chief with tasks related to surveying and construction layout.

  • Assisting in the preparation of field notes/sketches and completing field data downloads and uploads.

  • Maintaining field equipment and vehicles.

  • Communicate effectively with members of the team and follow standard procedures.

  • Responsible for maintaining field equipment and vehicles.

  • Responsible for safe operation of tools and equipment, complying with OHSA and Stantec’s HSSE policies.

  • Performs other duties of a similar nature and level as assigned.

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills and ability to work in a team environment.

  • Technical and mathematical skills along with the ability to perform physically demanding tasks (lifting survey equipment with a weight of up to 50 lbs.) in an outdoor environment in all weather conditions.

  • Valid driver's license and a good driving record with the ability to travel across southwestern Ontario with occasional overnight stays.

Education and Experience

  • Post-secondary education in Geomatics, Civil Engineering Technology, or a related discipline is preferred but not required.

  • Previous experience working with Robotic Total Stations, GNSS survey equipment, laser scanners, and digital levels is considered a significant asset.

Pay Range:

Locations in Lower Mainland - BC, GTA & Ottawa Ontario-$47,800.00 - $64,600.00 Annually

Pay Transparency: In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible. Actual compensation for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on the agreed number of working hours per week.
