Kichton Construction LP is the Fort McMurray based Heavy Civil entity within the Kichton Group of companies which has been operating since 1963. Kichton Construction LP commenced operations in 2019 as the industrial division of the Kichton Group to serve the Energy and Mining Industries throughout North America. Since inception, KCLP has grown sustainably and exponentially, starting with 30 experienced team members in 2019, to now over 400 team members and over 300 pieces of heavy equipment. KCLP is proud to continue operating alongside our Community Partner, the Chipewyan Prairie First Nation, as part of our NOHA/Kichton Joint-Venture.
The Role
We are seeking an experienced Survey QC Coordinator to work onsite at the Fort Hills oilsands mine 90 kms North of Fort McMurry. The ideal candidate has 3+ years of GPS construction layout experience preferably in a mining or oilsands setting. This position reports into the Project Manager.
Location/Job Details
- Fort Hills, AB
- 2 weeks on, 2 weeks off (day shift)
- 12 hours per day
- Fly in/fly out with Calgary or Edmonton flight hubs.
- Camp accommodations and meals provided at the Willow Camp - single occupancy room with own bathroom
- Lots of walking, bending and lifting up to 50 pounds required.
- Noisy, dusty, remote environment working around heavy equipment.
- Working outside in extreme heat and cold.
- Survey equipment and software provided by the company.
Compensation/Benefits
- $42.00 to $45.00 per hour with OT at 1.5 x the regular rate (bi-weekly pay).
- OT after 8 hours per day or 40 hours per week, whichever is greater.
- 9.6% Vacation and Statutory Holiday pay on all regular hours paid out bi-weekly.

Responsibilities/Job Duties
- Wildlife buffers and boundaries
- Understand, coordinate, and track layout requirements as well as status updates on a regular basis – daily/weekly.
- Expectation is to split your time daily between the office and the field, maintaining communication with supervision and site leadership.
- Review and analyze daily and weekly communications from environmental consultant to ensure timely and accurate follow-up.
- Collaborate daily with the survey department, providing clear guidance on boundaries and buffer requirements to ensure accurate data collection.
- Maintain a tracking system for wildlife buffers, incorporating data from daily and weekly environmental reports, as well as updates on boundary staking.
- Oversee the timely installation of boundaries and buffers by survey with a prioritization on the placement of buffer and boundary stakes.
- Verify completion and accuracy of staking while sharing the information with site leadership.
- Assist with survey layout, as-builts, etc.
- Troubleshoot and repair survey equipment, as required.
- Troubleshoot survey layout and machine control data onsite; ensure data is correct and updated.
- Topographic surveys for quantity verification, as required.
- Day-to-day field staking in accordance with project design.
- Other duties as assigned by management and site leadership.
Education/Qualifications/Training
- 3+ years working in a similar role preferrable in a mine or oilsands setting.
- Bachelor’s degree in Surveying, Geomatics, Civil Engineering, or a related field is preferred.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD and GIS software; experience with ArcGIS is highly desirable.
- Strong skills in data collection, management, and analysis.
- Familiarity with CAD applications and databases relevant to surveying tasks.
- Must be proficient in English, both verbally and written.
- Have a valid Class 5 Driver’s License with a good driver's abstract.
- Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol test.
- Experience operating and troubleshooting Trimble or Topcon survey equipment and software required.
- Intermediate computer skills required - excel, word, calendar, OneDrive.
- Experience with B2W software is considered an asset.
