Job summary

GeoVerra is seeking a Survey Assistant based in Grand Prairie, AB. The role focuses on field surveying tasks, equipment handling and collaboration with the project crew in outdoor environments.

The ideal candidate has a can-do attitude, strong communication, and willingness to travel with clients on projects while adhering to GeoVerra’s safety standards. Training and development are emphasized within a safety-first culture.

Qualifications

• Diploma/Degree in Geomatics or Civil Engineering Technology, or related discipline preferred, not required.
• Previous surveying or outdoors experience is beneficial.
• Ability and willingness to travel regularly for client/project requirements.
• Strong communication and collaborative skills are essential.
• Valid Class 5 driver’s license with clean driving record.
• First Aid, H2S and CSTS safety training is an asset.
• Successful completion of pre-employment drug and alcohol screening as per Canadian requirements.

Responsibilities

• Arrive on time and prepared for the assigned task and shift.
• Assist with tasks, track and maintain housekeeping of tools, equipment and materials at project sites, office and in crew vehicles.
• Support a positive and professional team atmosphere and act as a positive ambassador for GeoVerra.
• Assist Crew Chief in achieving project timelines and deliverables.
• Complete mandatory safety training and operate equipment safely and competently.
• Adhere to client, OH&S and GeoVerra safety requirements.
• Participate in Emergency Response Planning, Hazard Assessment, Job Safety Analysis, daily tailgate meetings and safety compliance.

Education

Geomatics / Civil Engineering Technology degree

Related discipline degree (preferred)

This position requires a quick and engaged learner, with proven success in adaptability, productivity, and high physical abilities. Ideally, you are organized and highly collaborative, with strong communication skills and an infectious positivity that positively affects team members around you. You also have a strong handle on equipment and field tools, with a healthy respect for the outdoors, while timely completing the task at hand.

What you will do:

• Arrive at work on time and prepared for the assigned task and shift.
• Assist with various tasks as required, track and maintain housekeeping of tools, equipment and materials at project sites, office and in crew vehicles.

• Assist Crew Chief in achieving project timelines and deliverables.
• Complete mandatory safety training and practice competent operation of all equipment and tasks.
• Adhere to, without exception, the safety requirements of the client, OH&S and the GeoVerra Safety program.
• Actively participate in Emergency Response Planning, Hazard Assessment, Job Safety Analysis development, daily tailgate meetings and comply with all safety requirements.

What you will bring:

• Diploma/Degree in Geomatics or Civil Engineering Technology, or related discipline preferred, not required.
• Previous experience in Surveying or other related types of work in the great outdoors.
• Ability and willingness to travel regularly for the client, project, and GeoVerra requirements.
• Commitment to respond to situations that occur outside traditional working hours.
• Capacity to take directions and communicate effectively.
• An understanding of survey methodologies is considered an asset.
• A valid Class 5 driver’s license and a clean driver’s abstract and background check.
• Completed training and valid tickets in First Aid, H2S and CSTS safety training is an asset.
• Successful completion of pre-employment drug and alcohol screening as per the limits provided in the Canadian Model for Providing a Safe Workplace

Job conditions

• Travel may be required and possible out-of-town work.
• Ability to carry, lift and push 50lbs on a regular basis.
• Ability to work outside in all weather conditions.
