Job summary

GeoVerra in Calgary/Edmonton, AB is seeking a Survey Assistant to join our field team. You will spend significant time outdoors, travel as needed, and support survey crews with equipment, data collection, and site logistics.

The role emphasizes adaptability, teamwork, and strong communication. A driver’s license, safety training, and pre-employment screening are required or asset.

Qualifications

  • Diploma/Degree in Geomatics or Civil Engineering Technology, or related discipline preferred
  • Previous surveying or field experience in outdoor environments
  • Able to travel regularly for client/projects
  • Willingness to respond to after-hours situations
  • Strong communication and ability to take directions

Responsibilities

  • Arrive on time and be prepared for assigned tasks and shifts
  • Assist with various tasks, track and maintain tools, equipment, and materials
  • Support a positive team atmosphere and act as a company ambassador
  • Assist Crew Chief in achieving timelines and deliverables
  • Complete safety training and operate equipment competently
  • Adhere to client OH&S and GeoVerra safety program
  • Participate in safety planning and daily tailgate meetings

This position requires a quick and engaged learner, with proven success in adaptability, productivity, and high physical abilities. Ideally, you are organized and highly collaborative, with strong communication skills and an infectious positivity that positively affects team members around you. You also have a strong handle on equipment and field tools, with a healthy respect for the outdoors, while timely completing the task at hand.

What you will do
  • Arrive at work on time and prepared for the assigned task and shift.
  • Assist with various tasks as required, track and maintain housekeeping of tools, equipment and materials at project sites, office and in crew vehicles.
  • Support a positive and professional team atmosphere and acts as a positive ambassador for the company.
  • Assist Crew Chief in achieving project timelines and deliverables.
  • Complete mandatory safety training and practice competent operation of all equipment and tasks.
  • Adhere to, without exception, the safety requirements of the client, OH&S and the GeoVerra Safety program.
  • Actively participate in Emergency Response Planning, Hazard Assessment, Job Safety Analysis development, daily tailgate meetings and comply with all safety requirements.
What you will bring
  • Diploma/Degree in Geomatics or Civil Engineering Technology, or related discipline preferred, not required.
  • Previous experience in Surveying or other related types of work in the great outdoors.
  • Ability and willingness to travel regularly for the client, project, and GeoVerra requirements.
  • Commitment to respond to situations that occur outside traditional working hours.
  • Capacity to take directions and communicate effectively.
  • An understanding of survey methodologies is considered an asset.
  • A valid Class 5 driver’s license and a clean driver’s abstract and background check.
  • Completed training and valid tickets in First Aid, H2S and CSTS safety training is an asset.
  • Successful completion of pre-employment drug and alcohol screening as per the limits provided in the Canadian Model for Providing a Safe Workplace
Job conditions
  • Travel may be required and possible out-of-town work.
  • Ability to carry, lift and push 50lbs on a regular basis.
  • Ability to work outside in all weather conditions.
