Job summary

Ledcor is seeking a Survey Assistant in Edmonton to support field survey teams on the LRT expansion project. You will assist surveyors, transport and set up equipment, and help collect accurate data across utilities, civil works, concrete and grading.

Gain hands-on experience in GPS units, levels and total stations while joining a safety-minded team. This long-term role requires residence in the Greater Edmonton Region and the ability to pass a pre-employment drug test.

Qualifications

  • Experience in surveying or geomatics preferred.
  • Education in surveying, geomatics or civil engineering highly regarded.
  • Able to set up survey equipment; training provided for the right candidate.
  • Strong math skills and analytical mindset.
  • Effective communication is essential.
  • Physically capable of outdoor work and equipment handling.
  • Must pass pre-employment drug and alcohol test.
  • Hold a valid Class 5 driver’s license with clean record.

You will be assisting the Surveyors in a variety of tasks during construction, and gain experience in utilities, civil works, concrete, grading, and much more.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Assist the Surveyors in performing their daily duties and follow instructions as directed
  • Transport and set up equipment and survey instruments
  • Use a variety of tools (hammer, frost pin, shovel) to support accurate surveying and construction activities
  • Safely operate a light duty vehicle in a high traffic and congested environment
  • Accurately take measurements and record data
  • Actively participate and be committed in Ledcor’s safety program
Requirements
  • Candidates with previous experience as a Survey Assistant are preferred
  • Education in the fields of surveying, geomatics and civil engineering fields will be highly regarded
  • Knowledge and experience of setting up survey equipment and instruments such as GPS units, levels and total stations, although training will be provided to the right candidate
  • Basic knowledge of surveying principles and an aptitude for mathematics and an analytical mindset
  • Effective and concise communication skills are key to this role
  • Must be able to handle the physical demands of outdoor conditions and the ability to move equipment
  • Reliable team player with a strong work ethic and desire to learn and progress
  • Must be able to complete a pre-employment drug and alcohol test
  • Hold a valid Class 5 drivers license and provide a clean 3-year drivers record
  • CSTS-2020, Fall Protection and WHMIS 2015 (training can be provided)
Working Conditions
  • Monday to Friday, 6:30 AM to 5:30 PM, with evenings and weekends free to enjoy at home
  • Work will be primarily outdoors in all year-round weather conditions
  • Benefits provided by CLAC - extended health plan (prescription drugs, dental, and other coverage)
  • Candidates must reside in the Greater Edmonton Region
