Job summary

A leading healthcare provider in Canada is seeking a Surgical Care Nurse to join their multidisciplinary team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for assessing, planning, and providing nursing care to patients, ensuring safety and quality in all aspects of care. This role requires strong organizational and communication skills, as well as the ability to work independently and as part of a team. Candidates must be registered with the BC College of Nurses and Midwives and have relevant experience in surgical care.

Qualifications

  • Up to two years recent, related experience on a unit-specific basis.
  • Basic Life Support, Level C certification required.

Working as a member of a multidisciplinary healthcare team, the Surgical Care Nurse functions as an experienced, self-directed nurse by assessing, planning, providing, and evaluating nursing care for assigned patients.

Qualifications: Education, Training, and Experience
  • Registration with BC College of Nurses and Midwives as a practicing RN registrant;
  • Post-basic education in surgical/ambulatory care nursing on a unit-specific basis; or
  • An equivalent combination of education and training.
  • Up to two (2) years recent, related experience on a unit-specific basis.
  • Basic Life Support, Level C
Skills and Abilities
  • Apply nursing process as required and described in BC College of Nurses and Midwives Standards of Nursing Practice;
  • Demonstrate sound organizational, problem-solving, and teaching skills;
  • Demonstrate sound judgment, observation, and patient assessment skills;
  • Demonstrate tact and empathy;
  • Prioritize and organize patient demands and care needs;
  • Operate related equipment;
  • Remain calm and respond appropriately in stressful and emergency situations;
  • Work as part of a multidisciplinary healthcare team;
  • Foster good public relations;
  • Communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing;
  • Physically able to perform the duties of the position;
  • Work independently, with limited supervision.
