Job summary

Cariboo Chilcotin CDC seeks a Supported Child Development Consultant to deliver developmentally appropriate activities for children with diverse abilities. You will model, observe, question, and demonstrate within multi-disciplinary teams to support inclusion in community programs.

The role emphasizes teamwork, confidentiality, and ongoing professional development. Flexible scheduling supports part-time and full-time opportunities in a friendly, learning-oriented environment.

Qualifications

  • Required: Early Childhood Education or relevant education and experience.
  • Current First Aid Certificate as per Community Care Facility Act.
  • Recent experience working with children requiring extra support and their families.
  • Ability to organize time and follow instructions.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and written.
  • Understanding the needs of children requiring extra support.
  • Additional education and training in special needs asset.
  • Knowledge of Supported Child Care philosophies and objectives.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid BC driver’s license and have own reliable vehicle suitable for travel.
  • Must have a recent satisfactory Criminal Record Check.

Responsibilities

  • Assess each child’s needs for Supported Child Development, plan and implement appropriate intervention and participate in client conferences, case reviews and team meetings.
  • Work directly with the child in the childcare setting by assisting the child with activities to promote the inclusion of special needs children in community programs.
  • Use professional specialized skills and knowledge to provide direct service and support for the child, parents, caregivers and other team members.
  • Structure clear Individual Service Plan, based on best practice.
  • Participate in professional development activities such as courses and workshops.
  • Keep accurate, up-to-date records in accordance with Cariboo Chilcotin Child Development Centre policies and procedures.
  • Assists in integrating child into childcare setting by implementing child specific adaptations of toys and equipment as directed by the Team Manager.
  • Use email, internet and Microsoft Office for clinical and administrative tasks.
  • Ability to work well with children and families within a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Recognize own professional boundaries and demonstrate an understanding of confidentiality.
  • Ability to reflect on practice and identify training needs relating to own caseload.
  • Communicate complex condition related information from assessment to clients, families and members of the multi-disciplinary team.

Job description

The Supported Child Development Consultant will carry out developmentally appropriate activities and experiences for children. The Consultant will use teaching techniques that include modeling, observing, questioning, and demonstrating, while working with children with diverse abilities. The SCD Consultant must be a team player, as they will work with multiple-disciplinary staff in an array of settings including setup, cleanup and ensuring a healthy and safe work environment.
