Job summary

Powell River Educational Services Society in Powell River is seeking a part-time Support Worker for a shelter environment, with 12-hour night shifts and day shifts. You will provide frontline support, promote safety, dignity and inclusion, and respond to emergencies to protect clients.

Collaborating with Lift staff, you will share information, support harm-reduction practices, and raise safety concerns in line with policies.

Qualifications

  • 1 year employment experience required.
  • Knowledge of Housing First model and harm reduction.
  • Familiarity with mental health, addiction services and community resources.
  • Successful Vulnerable Sector Check and/or Criminal Record Check required

Responsibilities

  • The Support Worker provides front-line, direct support to shelter clients by assisting with daily living activities, responding to immediate needs, and promoting safety, dignity, and inclusion.
  • Working collaboratively with Lift staff, the role contributes to a respectful, team-based environment by sharing information, supporting harm-reduction practices, and communicating safety concerns in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  • Reports to: Housing Services Manager

Job description

Location: Powell River/qathet Regional District

Schedule: 8am-8pm and 8pm-8am (12 hour shifts)

Salary Or Wage: $29.76 - $31.64 per hour * plus applicable shift premiums

Start Date: As soon as possible

Qualifications

  • High school completion required
  • 1 Year Employment Experience

Working Condition and Physical Requirements

  • 12-hour night shifts in a temporary shelter environment
  • Attends to medical emergencies including overdoses, injuries, and mental health crises
  • Navigates stairs and uses cleaning products and equipment
  • Safely lifts up to 50lbs
  • Collaborates as part of a team with high expectations for accountability, inclusivity, and respect
