Job summary

Canadian Red Cross in Whitehorse, Yukon, is seeking a Support Technician to assist the HELP Program with equipment inspection, repair, and maintenance, and to help keep administrative records up to date.

You will screen donated equipment for safety and reliability, assist volunteers, manage documentation, and respond to client inquiries while upholding the organization's commitment to accessible, inclusive service across Canada.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 1–2 years of related experience and a 1–2 year college diploma, post-secondary certification, or equivalent.
  • Basic knowledge of equipment repair (e.g., automobiles, bicycles, or similar equipment) and experience using hand tools.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint; SharePoint experience is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Clean, disinfect, inspect, repair, assemble, and label health equipment according to established procedures and quality standards.
  • Screen donated equipment to ensure safety, functionality, and compliance with recalls and safety requirements.
  • Maintain equipment and inventory records, report safety concerns, and troubleshoot equipment issues.
  • Demonstrate the safe use and adjustment of equipment and support quality assurance activities.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment, including reprocessing and storage areas.
  • Support operational activities such as overdue client follow-up calls, facility inspections, and coordination of maintenance and safety-related issues.
  • Provide guidance and support to volunteers involved in equipment reprocessing and daily operations.
  • Perform administrative tasks including data entry, document management, recordkeeping, database updates, and report preparation.
  • Assist with meeting and event coordination, including logistics, materials preparation, and minute-taking as required.
  • Respond to client inquiries and provide information regarding HELP services, processes, and equipment availability.
  • Build positive relationships with clients, volunteers, partners, and colleagues to support excellent service delivery.
  • Contribute to process improvements, special projects, and operational initiatives while ensuring compliance with organizational policies and procedures.

In this Role, You Will:

What We Are Looking For:
  • Minimum 1–2 years of related experience and a 1–2 year college diploma, post-secondary certification, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Basic knowledge of equipment repair (e.g., automobiles, bicycles, or similar equipment) and experience using hand tools.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint; SharePoint experience is an asset.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, maintain accurate documentation, and provide excellent client service.
  • Experience supporting administrative and operational activities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Valid driver's license and a satisfactory driver's abstract; experience operating light commercial or cargo vehicles is considered an asset.
Working Conditions:
  • Regular lifting, loading, unloading, and moving of equipment weighing 20 kg or more.
  • Requires fine motor skills, attention to detail, and the ability to adapt to changing priorities.
  • Work is performed in both office and warehouse environments, with exposure to noise, varying temperatures, cleaning products, and odors; appropriate safety equipment is required.
  • Requires safe operation of equipment and tools, occasional prolonged standing, and travel within the service area.
  • Ability to meet deadlines, manage multiple tasks, and respond professionally to client concerns and service issues.
