Job summary

Extendicare Inc. is seeking an Environmental Services Manager to lead the environmental services department at a Long‑Term Care home. You will focus on proactive maintenance, team engagement and strong relationships with residents, families and staff to deliver high quality care and living environments.

The role emphasizes budgeting, regulatory compliance and hands‑on leadership, with opportunities for mentorship and career growth within the organization.

Qualifications

  • Minimum two years managerial or supervisory experience in environmental services/maintenance.
  • Experience in a unionised environment; preference for long-term care or health-care.
  • Knowledge of building systems and preventive maintenance practices.
  • Ability to manage budgets and financial spend with strong integrity.

Job Description Environmental Services Manager/Support Services Manager

Join us as a leader to oversee and manage the environmental services department in our Long‑Term Care home (Crossing Bridge). With your technical expertise, you will take a proactive approach to ongoing maintenance and optimization of building equipment. Your passion for building trusted relationships and engaging a team of environmental services professionals will ensure we are able to provide an optimal quality of life to our residents.

Key Responsibilities
  • Achieving resident & family satisfaction and employee engagement targets
  • Ensuring health & safety risks to residents, employees and the general public are minimized or eliminated
  • Ensuring installed equipment is maintained in working order or serviced as required
  • Ensuring capital spend and department budget are within established guidelines
  • Works with the Executive Director and leadership team to maximize resident satisfaction
  • Hire, train and engage environmental services staff to deliver quality service to our residents
  • Maintain compliance with regulations and company policies and processes
  • Provides hands‑on leadership, mentoring, and assistance to the environmental services team as required
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with residents, employees, managers, regional team, and vendor partners
  • Respond with listening, empathy, acknowledgement and gratitude (RESPOND WITH HEART)
Qualifications
  • Mandatory post‑secondary degree or diploma in a related field or equivalent
  • Minimum two (2) years managerial or supervisory experience in environmental services/maintenance in a unionised environment (preference for long‑term care or health‑care)
  • Must be enrolled or willing to enroll in the Property Admin Certificate (PAC) program
  • Knowledge of building systems—basic plumbing, electrical, mechanical, HVAC, emergency systems (operator certification or journeyperson considered an asset)
  • Knowledge and experience in evidence‑based housekeeping, laundry, and maintenance practices; must manage budgets and financial spend
  • Values of respect, integrity, compassion and excellence and passion for working with seniors
  • Must provide current Vulnerable Sector Check (criminal background check) within six months or willingness to obtain one
