Overview

Hexagon Autonomy and Positioning (A&P) is seeking a Supplier Development Specialist. In this role, you will lead supplier sourcing, qualification, and development activities. Collaborating with Supply Chain, Product Engineering, and Management, you will help ensure Hexagon maintains a world-class supply chain. Our customers rely on Hexagon A&P’s industry-leading technology to build their solutions. Location: Hexagon is a global company with offices worldwide. This role can be based in Calgary, AB or Tucson, AZ.

Responsibilities

As our Supplier Development Specialist, your responsibilities include:

  1. Identifying supplier capability gaps in collaboration with functional teams and leading cross-functional efforts to select, qualify, and onboard new suppliers.
  2. Conducting on-site and remote supplier qualification audits based on ISO 9001 and IATF 16949 standards, preparing reports, and presenting findings and recommendations to stakeholders.
  3. Monitoring supplier performance and developing/improving action plans for underperforming suppliers.
  4. Driving supplier improvements through collaborative problem solving and creating corrective action plans for process failures.
  5. Making tough decisions, such as stopping supplier production due to quality issues, and managing recovery with urgency.
  6. Managing the AVL (Approved Vendor List) and SQPR (Supplier Quality Performance Reporting) processes.
  7. Participating in supplier recovery efforts by managing technical issues, providing technical dispositions, and reviewing trending metrics.
  8. Continuously improving Supplier Quality Engineering processes and best practices.
Qualifications

Must-Haves:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Manufacturing Engineering, or Material Science.
  • At least 5 years of relevant experience in supplier qualification or high-tech manufacturing process development.
  • Experience in high-tech manufacturing sectors and knowledge of processes like Injection Molding, Machining, Casting, SMT/PCBA, etc.
  • Willingness to travel within North America and internationally.
  • Deep knowledge of quality engineering techniques such as 8D, root cause analysis, 5 Whys, etc.
  • Effective communication skills in English, both written and verbal.

Proven Success Factors:

  • Strong collaboration skills with cross-functional teams, sharing information and facilitating idea exploration.
  • Practical understanding of LEAN methodologies in high-tech manufacturing.
  • Knowledge of ISO 9001, IATF 16949, ISO 14001, with experience in APQP and PPAP.
  • Application of quality control tools like SPC, Gage R&R, Process Capability, FMEA, DOE.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills for effective collaboration and influence in a matrixed environment.
  • Self-motivated with a drive to tackle challenging work.

Nice-to-Have:

  • ISO Lead Auditor, ASQ, or Internal Auditor Certification.
  • Understanding of health and safety practices.
  • Language skills such as Spanish or Portuguese are a plus.
