Job summary

Canadian National Inc. is seeking an experienced Signals & Communications Supervisor to lead the installation, inspection, and testing of signal systems across CN networks.

The role includes supervising on-site teams and coordinating with FRA standards. The position requires a strong background in S&C, project management, and safety compliance, with a minimum of 10 years in signals and communications and at least 2 years in a supervisory capacity.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, implement, and manage capital projects in line with CN/FRA requirements.
  • Collaborate to address derailments and service disruptions.

Job Summary


The incumbent is responsible for leading the installation of all signal systems, inspections, and testing activities including placing locations in service. Additionally, the incumbent ensures the supervision of employees on the assigned territory.

Main Responsibilities


Management

  • Lead assigned personnel to ensure signal construction work is performed with CN's and the Federal Railroad Administration's (FRA) standards and in conjunction with applicable collective bargaining agreements
  • Oversee groups of employees
  • Recommend appropriate corrective actions to resolve performance issues
  • Respond and resolve grievances

Safety Compliance
  • Build safety compliance and improve safety results through efficiency testing and safety walkabouts
  • Provide positive and constructive feedback as well as coaching

Capital Projects
  • Plan, implement, and handle capital projects to ensure the execution follows CN and FRA standards

Derailments and Disruptions
  • Participate in activities related to derailments and disruptions in service
  • Collaborate with Transportation and Mechanical to determine cause and future prevention
Working Conditions

The role is performed in a combination of office and outdoors environments in various types of weather conditions. The incumbent must be available to work shifts and weekends when necessary and be available to respond to critical incidences. The role requires frequent travel (60%) for company business, at times without advance notice. The incumbent must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. The role involves managing priorities and delivering work within established timelines, with support from the team to ensure sustainable and effective workload management.

Signals and Communications

  • Minimum 10 years of experience in signals and communications
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in signal construction and in a supervisory position

Technical Skills/Knowledge
  • Knowledge of Signals and Communications (SandC) systems infrastructure and related safety appliances
  • Knowledge of SandC project management, standards, specifications, and procedures
  • Knowledge of SandC Inspection System (SCIS), Systems, Applications and Products (SAP), and Train Management Dispatch System (TMDS)
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word)
