This position is permanent full time (36.25 hrs) onsite and is based in Vancouver

Your role :

Reporting to the Senior Manager of Production Services for British Columbia you will ensure that operations staff are an efficient and collaborative part of our B.C. news team. Your responsibilities include but are not limited to : Supervising daily production operations and staff scheduling in B.C. such as Videographers / Video Producers Switcher Directors Editors or Makeup Artists. Contributing to the planning of noncap purchases production workflows training and innovation for CBC News.

As the Supervisor you will demonstrate excellent organizational initiative and problem solving skills. You will collaborate closely with editorial leaders and the Senior Manager to plan and schedule production staff ensuring the effective utilization of resources and the smooth execution of field and on site operations.

You will guide and advise production programs and management teams on resource use and opportunities. Within the scope of assigned resources you will determine staffing needs and work with assigned schedulers to plan based on employee relationships and leave requests their respective skills and existing collective agreements.

You will manage and supervise personnel reporting to you in accordance with the collective agreements and authorize overtime and special leave as appropriate. You will evaluate employee performance and determine training requirements while having effective feedback conversations about their daily work and ongoing development. If required you will participate in personnel selection and hiring of temporary employees and permanent fulltime positions.

Within the scope of daily operations and various special projects you will coordinate the work carried out by the production team with that performed by other areas (maintenance outside contractors) whether work is completed by inhouse or outside personnel. You will prepare summaries production plans and financial estimates as well as make recommendations relating to noncapital and ordinary capital expenditures.

In this position you may occasionally be required to work long hours or on weekends. You may be asked to change the hours you work on short notice in the event of a business or production need requiring immediate coordination and support.

Responsibilities :

Supervises inhouse content production activities for English Services in British Columbia

Aid in scheduling of staff in collaboration with the local scheduling team.

Assist in the development of production budgets for a variety of News programs series live coverage etc. as is necessary

Coordinate with all CBC stations in BC to arrange for production with these stations.

Liaises with other CBC departments and locations to define and carry out shared initiatives as one CBC News division.

Collaborates with the French Services production team in British Columbia on shared priorities and initiatives.

Responsible for quality control of work produced by staff being supervised to maintain a high News Division standard.

Assesses training needs initiates the development of training programs for staff to meet production and department needs.

Assists in the management of the B.C. vehicle fleet.

Participates in annual Capital / Noncapital Planning to meet program priorities.

As the ideal candidate you will have :

A college diploma in media arts and technologies or equivalent is required.

Five (5) years experience in television production with some time spent in a position of leadership.

A broad understanding of all facets of professional audio and video production including field gathering control room operations and post production editing workflows

Knowledge of journalistic principles practices and ethics as it relates to news production.

Highly organized; able to work independently to prioritize tasks and see them through to completion in a deadlinedriven environment with minimal oversight.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Must be able to work with editorial teams and contribute suggestions to the creative process of audio and video production while guiding them to appropriate production techniques.

Available after hours and on weekends to support breaking news coverage manage sick calls and assist in resolving technical outages.

Knowledge of Human Resource corporate policies Health and Safety policies and collective agreements an asset.

A keen interest in local and national public affairs and current events. Able to demonstrate editorial judgment

French Language skills are an asset.

This position will not be filled until consideration has been made by the CBC / RadioCanada / APS Workforce Adjustment Committee.
