Overall Responsibilities:
Reporting to Director, Operations, the Operations Supervisor provides leadership and direction through proper training and communication to the Operations Team to meet our business needs and supervises the packaging, blending and dispensing areas of the facility and works closely with the Quality, Supply Chain and Warehouse Teams to ensure that we are running effectively and efficiently. The Production Supervisor ensures smooth operation of the shop floor and that all Team Leaders and Team Members are engaged in their jobs on a daily basis. The Operations Supervisor ensures that Team Members are rewarded and acknowledged for good performance and held accountable to established guidelines, SOPs, policies, and procedures from Safety, Quality and Production/Operations. The Operations Supervisor also acts as the liaison between Managers, Team Leaders, and Team Members.
Duties and Responsibilities:
• Supervises and motivates the team on a daily basis by displaying positive attitude and leading by example in all aspects of the business, including safety, quality and employee engagement.
• Works directly with the Director, Operations and Production Planning/Scheduling to develop daily/weekly production schedules and maintain proper workforce levels.
• Works directly with Team Leaders to assign Production Team Members to specific duties on
a daily basis to achieve production schedules and production targets.
• Works directly with the Supply Chain and Warehouse Teams to ensure that material is available and staged on time to support the production schedule.
• Provides ongoing training to Team Leaders and Production Team Members in areas of safety, equipment and handling, production, Standard Operating Procedures, GMP requirements and company policies and procedures.
• Establishes required skills / competencies list and visual cross-training boards; Ensures that Production Team Members are cross-trained and rotated to promote production flexibility
and engagement.
• Investigates operational problems as required and initiates corrective and preventative action to resolve on-going issues.
• Ensures that tracking, product specs and documentation of all work are performed accordingly via batch packaging document paperwork.
• Inspects all machinery for cleanliness, safety requirements and proper set up prior to production.
• Monitors and maintains housekeeping and sanitation programs/standards.
• Monitors production performance and reports on metrics to Senior Operations Manager/Management Team on a daily basis.
• Escalates issues to Senior Operations Manager; informs Senior Operations Manager of progress of work under taken.
• Holds regular meetings with production employees to deal with safety, quality and performance related issues; listens to Team Members’ feedback and resolves any issues or conflicts.
• Investigates continuous improvement opportunities and collaborates with Operations Team and other departments to implement waste and cost-effective processes.
• Follows and complies with Good Manufacturing Practices.
• Ensures Team Leaders and Production Team Members follow set rules.
• Ensures lock out tag out procedures are performed properly.
• Attends training seminars and video training when required (for licensing or other).
• Shift work may be included for this position.
• Other duties not included here may be required.
Qualifications and Behavioral Requirements:
• University or College degree in a science or related field
• 5+ experience in a high-pace manufacturing environment in progressive roles with at least 2-3 years in a leadership position
• Proficient in MS Office Suite products
• Experience working with an ERP system is an asset
• Working knowledge of GMP, Health & Safety, and Employment Standards regulations
• Strong people management and interpersonal skills and excellent collaborator
• Excellent planning, resource allocation, problem-solving and execution skills
• Naturally collaborative; self-motivated, proactive and entrepreneurial
• Ability to juggle multiple priorities while staying on top of the daily responsibilities in a team
work environment
• Possesses analytical reasoning and is goal/action management-oriented
