Job summary

Job Profile

Under the direction of the Manager of Finance, the Supervisor of Financial Services is responsible for the day-to-day provision of finance-related services for the Assets and Project Management Department including the Municipal Accommodations Division. Responsibilities include managing the efficient and effective functioning of Financial Services - Municipal Accommodations Branch. Primary responsibilities include mentoring and development of staff, documentation and monitoring of departmental financial systems including internal controls, coordinating the operating and capital budgeting and forecasting processes, directing financial analysis and reporting functions, coordination of (financial) customer service with Municipal Accommodations Division clients, and managing the financial aspects of the Municipal Accommodations Fund for which the Department is responsible. The Supervisor of Financial Services - Municipal Accommodations is a member of all applicable Division Management Teams and acts for the Manager of Finance in their absence.

As The Supervisor Of Financial Services, You Will

• Manage all operations of the Financial Services - Municipal Accommodations Branch and provide leadership to staff.
• Coordinate the Municipal Accommodations Division's Operating and Capital Budgeting processes.
• Direct financial reporting and analysis activities including year-end financial statement preparation.
• Coordinate the preparation and submission of periodic forecasts of divisional operating results and capital expenditures.
• Assess Divisional financial systems and internal controls to assess their adequacy and provide recommendations to address any deficiencies identified, and ensure staff are following prescribed processes and procedures.
• Perform other related duties consistent with the classification.

Your Education And Qualifications Include

• Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation in good standing required.
• Minimum three (3) years' experience working with complex financial systems in a progressively senior capacity, including supervisory responsibilities.
• Experience in preparing reports and conducting financial analyses including sophisticated, linked spreadsheets using Microsoft Excel.
• Experience within a unionized environment is an asset.
• Thorough knowledge of City and Departmental policies and procedures relating to financial processes, accounting, and procurement or equivalent experience in a similar environment.
• Knowledge of Canadian Generally Accepted Accounting Principles as they apply to Municipal governments (i.e., PSAB).
• Leadership, management, analytical, and decision-making skills.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships and to effectively supervise staff.
• Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
