Job description

At SMS Equipment, our Mining Field Supervisors are responsible for the safe, efficient and economical operation of the assigned work area. The Mining Field Supervisors oversee a variety trades people, all of who maintain, repair, rebuild all types of heavy mining and construction equipment and will assign work, allocates trades people time to best utilize available workforce, ensure the safe working of all reporting to them. This position is based in Timmins, ON.

The shift rotation for this position is 14x14. Accommodations are available.

The salary range for this position is $110,000 - $115,000.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to :

  • Ensure all work is performed in a safe manner, by performing job observations, facility inspections and setting safety standards and expectations, in-line with the guidelines as agreed with the senior leadership team.
  • Ensure that operational requirements are met by supervising, the activities of tradespeople who repair and maintain equipment on customer sites and setting realistic shift targets.
  • Assure a quality product by conducting in-process inspections.
  • Take corrective action for improvement by providing counselling and utilizing the disciplining process when standards are not met.
  • Monitor and inspect the workplace.
  • Deal with hazards and issues promptly and bring unresolved issues to the next level of management.
  • Ensure safety incidents are investigated and completed in a timely and quality manner.
  • Responsible for keeping employee safety training up to date and ensure the training is documented and recorded in the employee file.
  • Bring awareness to safety by participating fully in all Branch and Company safety programs.
  • Ensure payroll and human resources policies and procedures are met and enforced.
  • Lead toolbox talks and monthly safety meetings.
  • Timely submission of employee timecards and other documentation with emphasis on accuracy.
  • Communication of information and messages from leadership to the work force, also communication of issues on the floor to senior leadership.
  • Performance evaluations annually and as required.
  • Serve customers by providing service information and by resolving service problems using all branch and factory resources.
  • Attend customer meetings as required.

Qualifications :

The successful candidate will possess a High School Diploma or equivalent paired with a minimum of 5 years of supervisory experience in a mining and / or construction environment . Additional requirements include :

  • Relevant trades experience in a mining and / or construction environment.
  • Journeyperson Red Seal Heavy Duty Mechanic certification is preferred.
  • Thorough knowledge of maintenance and repair of mining equipment.
  • Strong computer skills in Microsoft Office and understanding of GANNT charts.
  • Knowledge of OHSE acts and regulations and equipment inspection requirements.
  • Valid Class 5 / G drivers license.
