Job summary

IAMGOLD is seeking a Drill & Blast Supervisor for the Cote Gold Mine site in Canada. The role leads drill and blast activities to support open pit production, reports to the Supervisor Mine Operations, and ensures safe, efficient execution and continuous improvement in fragmentation and mill feed.

The ideal candidate has 3+ years in open pit/mining or autonomous operations, with experience in drill and blast, MineStar, and safety leadership.

Qualifications

  • Grade 12 or Equivalent.
  • Ministry Supervisor Training is asset.
  • 3+ years in open pit mining or autonomous operations.
  • Drill and blast experience desirable.
  • Autonomous Mining Systems exposure desirable.
  • Lean and multi-disciplinary team leadership exposure desirable.
  • Digital literacy and fleet management systems required.
  • Drill and blast planning/execution/fragmentation optimization experience assets.
  • MineStar experience is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate visible safety leadership through field presence and safety activities.
  • Lead and support safety programs incl. MBAs, FLRAs, corrective actions.
  • Plan, coordinate and supervise daily/weekly drill and blast activities.
  • Oversee drilling, charging, tie-in, blasting, and post-blast inspections.
  • Monitor drilling accuracy, fragmentation, and performance; implement improvements.
  • Coordinate contractors and cross-functional teams to ensure safe, efficient work.
  • Ensure safe handling, storage and use of explosives per regs.
  • Track performance and report blast results and issues.

Supervisor, Drill & Blast Operations (15455)

We’re actively searching for a Drill & Blast Supervisor to join the Cote Gold operation site, with a start date to be determined. Reporting to the Supervisor Mine Operations, this role leads and coordinates drill and blast activities, ensuring safe, efficient, and effective execution of drilling, blasting, and related activities required to support open pit production objectives.

This role is critical to IAMGOLD’s purpose by enabling safe, reliable production through the effective execution of drill and blast activities. By delivering high-quality fragmentation, maintaining operational readiness, and supporting production schedules, the Drill & Blast Supervisor helps optimize mining performance, protect employees, and ensure consistent mill feed and operational continuity.

Responsibilities:
  • Demonstrate visible safety leadership through regular field presence, worker engagement, safety meetings, workplace inspections, and hazard identification activities.
  • Lead and support safety programs, including MBAs, FLRAs, and corrective actions to maintain a safe work environment.
  • Plan, coordinate, and supervise daily and weekly drill and blast activities in alignment with operational priorities and mine plans.
  • Oversee drilling, charging, tie-in, blasting, and post-blast inspections to ensure compliance with regulatory and company standards.
  • Monitor drilling accuracy, blast performance, fragmentation results, and operational efficiencies, implementing improvements as needed.
  • Coordinate contractors and cross-functional teams, including Production, Mine Engineering, Maintenance, Geotechnical, Environmental, and Mill departments, to ensure safe and efficient execution of work.
  • Ensure the safe handling, storage, and use of explosives in accordance with legislative requirements and company procedures.
  • Track performance through SIC metrics and KPIs, ensuring accurate reporting of completed work, blast results, identified issues, and corrective actions.
Key Skills & Knowledge:
  • Grade 12 or Equivalent.
  • Ministry Supervisor Training is considered an asset.
  • 3 or more years of experience in an open pit mining environment or autonomous operations environment.
  • Previous experience in drill and blast operations is highly desirable.
  • Previous exposure to Autonomous Mining Systems is highly desirable, but not essential.
  • Previous exposure to lean and multi-disciplinary team leadership is desirable, but not essential.
  • Digital literacy and experience with fleet management systems are required.
  • Experience with drill and blast planning, blast execution, and fragmentation optimization would be seen as an asset.
  • Experience in MineStar is an asset.
