Job summary

Victoria Airport Authority is seeking a Director of Airside Operations to lead the performance of airside operations, systems and services at Victoria International Airport (YYJ). You will ensure safe, efficient operations, guide multi-year plans, and advocate for high performance in a unionized environment.

The role reports to the Vice President, Operations and requires strong regulatory knowledge, strategic leadership, and collaboration with regulators and partners to maintain airside safety

Qualifications

  • Significant experience leading airside safety and maintenance operations in a complex, highly regulated environment.
  • Strong knowledge of Canadian Aviation Regulations, ICAO Standards, Safety Management Systems.
  • Proven ability to lead multidisciplinary teams, ideally in a unionized environment.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, direct, and oversee performance of Victoria Airport Authority's airside operations, systems and services; ensure safe, efficient operations.
  • Translate corporate priorities into multi-year plans, policies, procedures and performance standards; report to the Board.
  • Provide strategic oversight of workforce capability, performance management and a positive, high-performing culture.
  • Manage operational and capital budgets, oversee contractors and vendors, and deliver complex projects and programs.

Reporting to the Vice President, Operations, the Director, Airside Operations (Director) leads, directs, and oversees the performance Victoria Airport Authority's (VAA) airside operations, systems and services. The Director is accountable for the safe, e?cient and continuous operation of these critical functions, including airside and groundside maintenance, winter operations and compliance with applicable regulatory performance requirements.

As a key member of VAA's management team, the Director translates corporate priorities into multi-year business and operational plans, policies, procedures and performance standards. The role provides strategic advice to the Executive, contributes to reporting to the Board, and leads operational and capital initiatives that strengthen organizational resilience, improve performance and prepare the airport for future requirements. The Director provides senior leadership to multidisciplinary teams in unionized and excluded environments. They are accountable for workforce capability, succession readiness, performance management and the development of a positive, high-performing culture aligned with VAA's values.

The ideal candidate is an accomplished airport operations leader with significant experience leading airside safety and maintenance operations in a complex, highly regulated environment. They bring strong knowledge of Canadian Aviation Regulations, ICAO Standards, Safety Management Systems, operational risk, business continuity and airport infrastructure. They will have demonstrated success leading multidisciplinary teams, ideally in a unionized environment, managing operational and capital budgets, overseeing contractors and vendors, and delivering complex projects and programs.

A confident communicator and collaborative leader, the Director builds trusted relationships with employees, regulators, aviation partners, service providers, localgovernments, Indigenous leaders and other interest holders. Strategic and forward-looking while remaining connected to day-to-day operations, the Director is recognized for sound judgment, accountability and the ability to manage competing priorities while maintaining a strong focus on safety, service and operational excellence.
