Job summary

Clark Builders is seeking a Night Shift Superintendent to lead field activities on the Sturgeon Data Center project near Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta. You will supervise subcontractors, coordinate SPO staff, and ensure safety, quality, schedule, and budget adherence on an overnight rotation.

Reporting to the Senior Superintendent, you will develop sequencing, monitor progress, resolve field issues, and maintain strong relationships with trades while upholding Clark Builders standards and safety

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Building Construction or similar, +4 years experience.
• Knowledge of construction engineering principles, supervision, scheduling, estimating, contracts and drawings.
• Experience with safety and OSHA regulations.
• Ability to read contracts and project schedules.
• Strong communication and leadership skills.

Position Description

The Night Shift Superintendent leads, oversees, directs, and coordinates construction field activities and the performance of subcontractors and Clark Builders Self-Perform Operations (SPO) staff for a specific area of a large project. Ensures adherence to safety, schedule delivery, quality of work performed, and budget. This is an on-site position supporting overnight construction activities on the Sturgeon Data Center project located near Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta. The position will follow a 10-days-on, 4-days-off rotation, with 12-hour shifts.

Reports to: Senior Superintendent, Field Operations Manager

Essential Duties & Key Responsibilities

Oversee and make decisions related to project activities in compliance with approved contract documents, scheduling, logistics, quality control, field operations, and WIP and subcontractors and Clark Builders Self-Perform Operations (SPO) staffing levels, provide technical and jobsite planning guidance. Manage and align General Requirements and General Conditions (GR/GC) within project budget. Manage project mock-ups and oversee associated testing, review, and approval as applicable. Ensure acquisition of required project permits and insurance, keep current for term of project, and serve as liaison with inspection agencies. Oversee work among assigned trades to promote coordinated project operations. Establish and maintain relationships with subcontractors’ Trade staff. Resolve local area problems regarding procedures, precedence, design clarifications, equipment schedule, and other related matters. Develop and manage jobsite safety program in collaboration with EH&S team and ensure subcontractor compliance with Clark Builders standards and safety codes and regulations. Create and communicate schedules and determine sequencing of work to project stakeholders and staff. Identify schedule risks and develop, communicate, and implement recovery strategies to maintain project schedule. Identify, investigate, manage, and resolve field issues and communicate with relevant project stakeholders, elevate to project leadership as needed. Manage and verify billing process for Work In Place (WIP) and oversee monthly estimate of work completed, payrolls, material invoices, and subcontractor payment applications. Manage work performed to ensure installation in compliance and conformity to approved contract documents. Apply basic continuous improvement concepts and practices to work efficiently, enhance programs, coordinate and reduce waste. May supervise team of Superintendent employees, may oversee Field Coordinators and Interns, onboard and deliver timely performance feedback for direct reports, execute/contribute to performance appraisals during annual performance cycle, utilize talent management systems, and identify appropriate training to help with development needs. Other duties, actions, and responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree from accredited program in Engineering, Construction Management, Building Construction or similar, and minimum of 4 years of experience, or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which can include trade certifications
• Working knowledge of construction engineering principles and techniques, field supervision, scheduling, estimating, purchasing, general contract, general conditions, subcontract documents, drawings and specifications and basic understanding of construction accounting procedures
• Prior experience supporting piping installation, quality control, earthworks, and scheduling
• Extensive experience in Safety and practical knowledge of OSHA regulations
• Knowledge of building construction materials, systems, market conditions, trade practices
• Ability to read, understand and interpret contract documents, drawings, specifications, scopes of work and project schedule
• Able to work with minimal information and quickly develop understanding of project requirements
• Apply critical thinking to make sound decisions
• Project management of competing demands and meet established deadlines
• Able to build relationships across project to facilitate work productivity
• Professional verbal and written communication skills
• Familiar with continuous improvement methodologies
• Supervisory and management experience
• Proficient computer skills and Microsoft Office suite of applications
• Familiarity with P6 is an asset.
• Able to work collaboratively in a high pressure environment.
• Experience in an industrial environment will also be considered an asset.
