Job summary

Pomerleau is hiring an experienced Superintendent for the Major Projects team in Canada. You will support growth on large-scale building and infrastructure projects, lead on-site teams, and collaborate with clients and subtrades to ensure quality and safety.

The role involves developing and driving construction schedules, mentoring staff on site, and aligning with the IPD model for innovative infrastructure delivery. Travel across the region is expected.

Qualifications

  • Over 7 years relevant experience in the civil construction industry.
  • A construction related certificate, diploma or degree.
  • A proven track record of project success and team collaboration.
  • Strong knowledge of construction disciplines, safety regulations, scheduling, quality and cost control.
  • The ability to quickly identify problematic situations and lead a large team to completion.
  • A passion to develop, maintain and execute the project schedule.
  • Good computer skills and experience with scheduling software.
  • Willingness to work across the region.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate leadership in Health, Safety and Environmental Protection on the project.
  • Apply project safety standards and codes with all employees and trade partners.
  • Ensure materials meet the Quality Program requirements.
  • Estimate on-site manpower needs and allocate resources.
  • Mentor and lead the on-site team to support the project.
  • Collaborate with trade partners and consultants on site.
  • Drive construction schedule in tandem with the project team to meet milestones.
  • Propose methods to increase effectiveness and productivity on site.
  • Coordinate with Project Manager for start-up details and schedules.
  • Be a role model in client coordination meetings.
  • Ensure training is up to date for site personnel.
  • Manage on-site material acceptance and inventory accuracy.
  • Keep project documentation organized and accessible.
  • Participate in project wrap-up and celebrate success.
  • Provide training on environmental matters to workers and the project team.

As an experienced Superintendent - working in the Major Projects team at Pomerleau Construction, you will support new and ongoing project growth, challenging industry standards with your trade-driven expertise and knowledge. Working on large-scale building and infrastructure projects – upwards of $1 billion – you will work closely with the project management team, various client groups and subtrades to ensure project excellence through your outstanding leadership, keen eye for detail and commitment to quality, and health and safety. The Arctic Over-the-Horizon Radar Project (A-OTHR) is a major Canadian infrastructure and defence initiative that will play a vital role in strengthening the country's security and surveillance capabilities for generations to come. As a key partner on this project, Pomerleau is helping deliver innovative infrastructure through a collaborative Integrated Project Delivery (IPD) model alongside industry-leading organizations. Together, the team is designing and building the facilities that will support one of the most advanced radar systems in North America. What You Will Do
  • Demonstrate leadership in Health, Safety and Environmental Protection on the project.
  • Effectively apply the requirements of the project specific safety standards to promote Pomerleau’s HS&E standards, applicable OH&S acts, regulations and codes with all employees and trade partners on the project
  • Use your proactive approach to determine project materials are supplied and in compliance with our first-class Quality Program;
  • Establish and identify on-site manpower requirements;
  • Take a hands‑on approach to leading, mentoring and walking with our team on site to support the project team;
  • Collaborate with our trade partners and consultants;
  • Develop and drive the construction schedule in conjunction with the project team ensuring that completion dates and milestones are met;
  • Put your problem‑solving skills to work and recommend innovative methods that will increase effectiveness and efficiency to ensure project excellence and productivity;
  • Collaborate with the Project Manager for all construction site start‑up details including the schedule;
  • Be a role model during coordination meeting with our clients and associated representatives;
  • Stay on top of workforce training for the site team and ensure all training is up to date;
  • Actively receive delivered materials on site according to policy;
  • Ensure that the project is built according to the approved plan, specifications, shop drawings, and applicable building codes and that all content is current;
  • Be a keeper of construction site inventory and work with our Logistics team to ensure accuracy;
  • Keep construction site documentation organized;
  • Celebrate project success and completion and be a key member of the project wrap‑up process.
  • Educate and provide training to workers and the Project Team on environmental matters as an expert in the field.
This Role Could Be You If You Have
  • Over 7 years relevant experience within the civil construction industry;
  • A construction related certificate, diploma or degree;
