Job summary

Pomerleau in Ontario leads the Major Projects team on large-scale building and infrastructure initiatives. As a Superintendent, you will support project growth, drive safety, quality, and schedule, and collaborate with clients and subtrades on initiatives like the Arctic Over-the-Horizon Radar Project.

Qualifications

  • Over 7 years relevant experience within civil construction.
  • A construction related certificate, diploma or degree.
  • Proven track record of project success and team collaboration.
  • Strong knowledge of construction disciplines, safety regulations, scheduling, quality and cost control.
  • Ability to lead a large team to successful completion.
  • Experience with scheduling software and IPD delivery models.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate leadership in Health, Safety and Environmental Protection on the project.
  • Apply project safety standards to promote HS&E and codes with all employees and trade partners.
  • Lead, mentor and walk with the team on site to support the project.
  • Develop and drive construction schedule with the project team.
  • Collaborate with trade partners and consultants to meet milestones.
  • Ensure construction is built to plan, specs and codes with current content.
  • Coordinate on-site material reception and inventory with Logistics.
  • Maintain site documentation and support project wrap-up activities.

As an experienced Superintendent - working in the Major Projects team at Pomerleau Construction, you will support new and ongoing project growth, challenging industry standards with your trade-driven expertise and knowledge. Working on large-scale building and infrastructure projects – upwards of $1 billion – you will work closely with the project management team, various client groups and subtrades to ensure project excellence through your outstanding leadership, keen eye for detail and commitment to quality, and health and safety. The Arctic Over-the-Horizon Radar Project (A-OTHR) is a major Canadian infrastructure and defence initiative that will play a vital role in strengthening the country's security and surveillance capabilities for generations to come. As a key partner on this project, Pomerleau is helping deliver innovative infrastructure through a collaborative Integrated Project Delivery (IPD) model alongside industry-leading organizations. Together, the team is designing and building the facilities that will support one of the most advanced radar systems in North America. This is a rare opportunity to join a project of national significance, where your work will contribute to a lasting legacy of innovation, collaboration, and excellence.

What You Will Do
  • Demonstrate leadership in Health, Safety and Environmental Protection on the project.
  • Effectively apply the requirements of the project specific safety standards to promote Pomerleau’s HS&E standards, applicable OH&S acts, regulations and codes with all employees and trade partners on the project
  • Use your proactive approach to determine project materials are supplied and in compliance with our first-class Quality Program;
  • Establish and identify on-site manpower requirements;
  • Take a hands‑on approach to leading, mentoring and walking with our team on site to support the project team;
  • Collaborate with our trade partners and consultants;
  • Develop and drive the construction schedule in conjunction with the project team ensuring that completion dates and milestones are met;
  • Put your problem‑solving skills to work and recommend innovative methods that will increase effectiveness and efficiency to ensure project excellence and productivity;
  • Collaborate with the Project Manager for all construction site start‑up details including the schedule;
  • Be a role model during coordination meeting with our clients and associated representatives;
  • Stay on top of workforce training for the site team and ensure all training is up to date;
  • Actively receive delivered materials on site according to policy;
  • Ensure that the project is built according to the approved plan, specifications, shop drawings, and applicable building codes and that all content is current;
  • Be a keeper of construction site inventory and work with our Logistics team to ensure accuracy;
  • Keep construction site documentation organized;
  • Celebrate project success and completion and be a key member of the project wrap‑up process.
  • Educate and provide training to workers and the Project Team on environmental matters as an expert in the field.
This Role Could Be You If You Have
  • Over 7 years relevant experience within the civil construction industry;
  • A construction related certificate, diploma or degree;
  • A proven track record of project success and team collaboration;
  • Strong knowledge of construction disciplines, safety regulations, scheduling, quality and cost control;
  • The ability to quickly identify problematic situations, identify possible causes, produce effective solutions and collaboratively lead a large team to successful completion.
  • A passion to develop, maintain and execute the project schedule;
  • Good computer skills and previous experience with scheduling software;
  • Knowledge of the market and ability to work throughout the region.
